FatPort Security Measures
Keeping your connection secure is one of our highest priorities - and we're
constantly devloping new ways to provide the most secure environment
possible.
General Security Background
Wireless networking can be less secure than its wired counterpart; however, we have measures in place to
ensure your sensitive account
information and credit card transactions are secure. We also offer
additional measures you can take to ensure the rest of your connection
is secure.
Account Security Measures
All customer account information is stored securely behind a firewall.
To further protect your personal information, all electronic commerce
records are encrypted using military-grade public-key encryption techniques.
Your password is also encrypted within our servers using strong cryptographic
hashing functions.
When you log on at one of our locations, your account information
is encrypted using 128-bit SSL before it is passed over the air.
This is the same level of encryption trusted by the banks.
Connection Security Measures
Once you have logged onto FatPort, your connection is less secure. It
is possible, albeit difficult, for someone to intercept and view your
data through the wireless connection. Note: It is still safe to view
SSL-encrypted web sites such as the one your bank provides. If you
are concerned with the security of your data, we recommend using a
Virtual Private Network (VPN).
A Virtual Private Network is like a tunnel through the Internet
between your laptop and a server. VPNs are a powerful and widely used solution because they
eliminate the security concerns of wireless networking and are
considered very secure. Ask your IT staff if a VPN is available at
your company.
FatPort supports the use of existing VPN solutions if your company
already has one. Contact our security department at security@fatport.comfor more
specific details if you have trouble connecting to your company's VPN
server.
