Family Echo - Frequently Asked Questions
Below is a list of common questions from users of Family Echo. You can also read About Family Echo, some Genealogy Resources, the Terms of Use Agreement or the Privacy and Download Policies.
Q: How do I print the tree?
Click the printer icon below the tree, then follow the instructions before choosing 'Print...' in your browser.
Q: Why can't I see/print everyone on the tree?
It is often not possible to show the entire family tree at once, without confusing crossing lines. To show the most people possible, click on one of the tree's oldest ancestors and select 'All' from the 'Children' menu.
Q: How do I show middle names?
Middle names should be entered after the person's first name, with a space between.
Generally middle names are not shown on the tree, but this can be changed by selecting 'Middle names' from the 'Display' menu.
Q: How do I create a marriage between two existing people?
This is not yet possible. The recommended workaround is to create a new copy of the person to indicate the marriage, then add a note in the 'Bio notes' section of both copies explaining the situation.
Q: What about adopted children?
There is currently no way to differentiate between biological and adopted children. The recommended workaround is to add the children as if they were biological, and include an explanatory note in the 'Bio notes' section.
Q: Why can't I add more distant relatives?
There is a limit on which relatives can be included in a tree, based on their distance from the tree's founder. This limit helps ensure privacy for family members, and prevents the tree from growing indefinitely. If you reach the limit, click the 'Create new family' button to start a new family branch from the selected person.
Q: How can I find out more about my ancestors?
Please see the Genealogy Resources page for some links to sites for researching your family history.
Q: How much does this cost?
Family Echo is a free service. In future it may include advertising or offer optional premium services.
