Alaska Salmon & Halibut Fishing Trips - More Details
Choosing Your Dates
What dictates the beginning of our charter season as well as it's end is simply this ~ Water and Weather conditions. Wether you're targeting Salmon, Halibut, Yellow Eye, Rock Fish or Ling Cod: the fish are here. We are not "date sensitive" as lakes or rivers may be.
Our charter fishing season is from May thru early September. You can choose the time of year that you prefer to fish by the Salmon species (King or Coho) you want to target.
- May and June are predominantly King Salmon / Chinook.
- Early July is an excellent time for a mixed bag; It is the beginning of our Silver Salmon run, with a strong showing of Kings.
- Mid July thru August, and early September is predominantly Silver Salmon / Coho, with some quality King Salmon fishing in the mix.
- September: Predominatly Coho / Silver Salmon.
Halibut, Rock Cod, and Yellow Eye are available all season long.
A Ling Cod Closure is in effect from June 15th thru August 15th.
Ling Cod Re-Opens August 16th.
There is a slot limit for Ling Cod.
During the Ling Cod opening, Ling Cod between 30 to 35 inches may be retained.
* Please feel free to call us at 888-966-2322 for the ADF&G; 2008 limits on any of these fisheries.
What To Bring?
- We do provide rain gear but for that "custom" fit you may want to bring your own. Waterproof footwear is recommended.
- Your camera with lots of film.
- Layered clothing is recommended, as temperatures will vary from 45 to 80 degrees
REMEMBER; when leaving Sitka, your processed seafood counts as checked baggage, so travel lightly. (We suggest carry-on luggage only.)
What to Anticipate Upon Arrival
From the moment you exit your flight, we will be there to welcome you and the members of your party in the airport terminal. Remember to look for our friendly staff and sign, "Alaskan Reel Affair Charters".
We pride ourselves in being a highly people oriented organization, where many of our clients become our friends.
We will accompany you and your party to the Westmark Shee Atika, and assist you with your hotel check-in. Together, we'll complete fishing licenses and king salmon stamps, familiarize you with our meal vouchers, and answer all of your questions. We will also be pleased to secure those dinner reservations you may want while you are out fishing.
The following morning after you have had a wonderful breakfast of your choice, your driver will be ready to take you to the harbor where your deckhand will be awaiting your arrival and will assist you in beginning your Alaskan fishing experience.
Custom Fish Processing
Every day you fish with us your "catch" is prepared to your specifications. You may want your salmon steaked or filleted, whole side fillets for your Bar-B-Q, or maybe smoked? Feel free to change your mind daily.
Within hours of being harvested by you, your seafood has been steaked or filleted, packaged in portions for 2, labeled, vacuum-sealed in 4 mil bags, and flash frozen to -25 degrees.
What to Anticipate Upon Departure
On your day of departure, we'll be at the Westmark Hotel to take you to the airport in ample time for a relaxed check-in, where you'll find your seafood waiting on carts with our experienced staff. We will remain with you until you are comfortable and at ease.
