Waterford is situated on the south bank of the River Suir, which opens into the estuary of Waterford Harbour some miles to the east after receiving the waters of the Rivers Nore and Barrow. A bridge joins the city with the suburb of Ferrybank on the northern bank. As the main seaport of the south-east, Waterford has a considerable shipping trade with British and European ports. Its important industries include bacon and meat processing, furniture-making, iron founding, electrical products, steel castings and pharmaceutical products. Waterford Glass is one of the largest crystal factories in the world. Factory tours are possible by appointment with the management or the Waterford tourist office.
