The Unphlett crew - May 4, 2008
|
FINALLY!! The 2008 season is here...
After a cold, snowy spring that delayed the inevitable pre-season boat work we were finally able to get the Pursuit in the water and ready to go fishing in time for this weekend. Unfortunately, the weather man had other ideas.... We headed out on Saturday to find 25-30 kts of wind and rough seas. Being gung-ho, as we were, to get the season underway and kill some fish we tried our best to fish through the storm but were only able to come up with one lone halibut. The grey cod bite was ferocious though and we managed to pull in a couple dozen cod. After undertaking a bit of an at-sea rescue and towing a broken-down vessel back to the safety of the bay we finished the day catching some rockfish in the bay.
Sunday dawned with much the same weather as the day before, and not wanting to experience a repeat of the prior day we opted to stay "close to home" and fish. Fortunately, we were able to find some chicken halibut, more cod, and a few rockfish to make a good day for the Umphlett crew. Hopefully this week the weather will be improving and we'll be able to get further out and find the fish.
The 2008 season is filling up fast with dates in July and early August all but full. June is filling in and the end of May is also looking fairly busy. So, if you are interested in booking a charter for the upcoming season give us a call (888-385-1312) and we'll do our best to set up a trip for you.
