Why do I get a different country version of AltaVista when I enter www.altavista.com?

We always strive to provide the AltaVista experience that best suits your location. For example, if you are in the UK and enter www.altavista.com into your browser address bar, we detect that you're in the UK and serve you www.altavista.co.uk. This experience is tuned for the UK audience, providing local content and allowing you to search the UK Web in English. However, you can always perform a search of the entire web by clicking the "WorldWide" button below the search box before running your search.

To override our settings and choose another country, click the link in the upper right of the home page, marked with a down arrow. See How do I change my country? (below) for more detail.
