  • Dept. of Defense Announces $300M in new PTSD & TBI research funding Opportunities

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury (PTSD/TBI) Research Program Funding Opportunities

Fiscal Year 2007 (FY07) Supplemental DOD Funding provided $150 million for PTSD research and an additional $150 million for TBI research. A key priority of the PTSD/TBI Research Program is to compliment ongoing DOD efforts to ensure the health and readiness of our Military forces. This program is administered by the US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC), through the Office of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP).

Program Announcements and Supplements to the USAMRMC Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) for the FY07 PTSD/TBI Research Program are expected to be released by mid July 2007. The anticipated funding mechanisms include:

o       Concept Award

o       New Investigator Award

o       Investigator Initiated Research Award

o       Research Consortium Award

o       Clinical Consortium Award

o       Advanced Technology / Clinical Therapeutic Development Award

Detailed descriptions of each of these mechanisms, evaluation criteria, submission requirements, and deadlines will be provided in the FY07 Program Announcements for the FY07 PTSD/TBI Research Program. Each Program Announcement will be available electronically for downloading from the Grants.gov website (http://www.grants.gov) upon its release in July 2007.

Intramural and Extramural funding opportunities will be announced. Full proposals requesting funding from the CDMRP through the Extramural Process will be submitted through the Federal Government's single entry portal, Grants.gov, in compliance with Public Law 106-107. Individual Program Announcements and required forms will also be found on this website. Full proposals requesting funding from the CDMRP through the Intramural Process will be submitted through the CDMRP eReceipt website, https://cdmrp.org. A Pre-Application will be required of all proposals, to be submitted through the CDMRP eReceipt website.

Requests for e-mail notification of release of Program Announcements and Supplements to the USAMRMC BAA may be sent to prequest@constellagroup.com. For more information about CDMRP-sponsored programs, please visit the CDMRP website.

The Point of Contact for these solicitations is Ms. Gail Whitehead, Public Affairs Coordinator, CDMRP, 301-619-7783 gail.whitehead@amedd.army.mil.

See the announcement (in MS Word format) for details of the first two mechanisms.

  • Mac Users – Apple Security Patch Affects Grants.gov Form Use (May 11, 2007)
A new issue affecting Mac users has just surfaced. Evidently, the latest security update sent out by Apple has left IBM Workplace Forms (PureEdge) Viewer for Macintosh users unable to open, manipulate or submit grant applications. Apple has advised against rolling back the security update. Grants.gov is aware of the issue and is in contact with IBM to determine if a fix or workaround can be made available. Grants.gov will be providing guidance for this issue on their Download Software Page.

As a reminder, Mac users can continue to use the following options:

-       NIH-hosted Citrix servers: allow non-PC users to prepare and submit applications using the PureEdge forms viewer. This service has been used successfully by many applicants and has the capacity to handle the anticipated load for upcoming submission deadlines.

-       PC-emulation software: commercially available products allow Mac users to run the PureEdge viewer.
