Exploring Edinburghs cobbled lanes by foot is the best way to experience this medieval city, with soaring steeples and stately architecture such as the Scottish Parliament. The best place for a wee dram or local fayre, such as haggis, is the entertainment precinct north of Princes street.
True Scottish culture is best experienced during the Edinburgh Festival (August), where you can witness the noisy mass-piper bands of the Military Tattoo.
