Fish Anytime of the Year-
Fishing is one of the most popular outdoor activities in Mississippi. The
region's mild climate promotes a year-round growing season for the state's
game fish and also enables outdoorsmen to combine fishing with most all
other sporting activities. The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries
and Parks operates 24 prime fishing lakes offering a total of 6,044 acres
of picturesque waters. There are approximately 175 different species of
freshwater fish found in Mississippi, which is a testament to the richness
and diversity of the state's environment.
The Gulf of Mexico also offers brackish
and saltwater fishing. Crab, redfish and speckled trout offer
catches off piers, estuaries and barrier islands, white shark,
red snapper, and Spanish and king mackerel provide sport offshore.
Excellent fishing opportunities can be found in every corner
of the state. From the oxbow lakes that mark the ancient trails
of the state's many rivers and streams to man-made reservoirs
and countless lakes, ponds, bayous and marshes, anglers can
find an endless supply of places to get hooked on fishing.
