Requesting an item

Only registered users can request items. Unregistered users can still request copies of items through our Copies Direct service.
It takes time for us to retrieve your request: learn more about the Library's collection delivery service

Initiating the request

To check an item's availability, scroll to the bottom of the record display page, or click the "availability" button at the top to jump down:

Click the "Get this" button to request the item, or the "Copies Direct" button if you wish to be sent a photocopy.

Sometimes the "Get this" button will be greyed out and unclickable. This means, for some reason, the item isn't available to request. This could be because somebody else has already requested it, or the item is missing, damaged, not available for loan and so on. When possible, a note will be provided in the "Collect From" column:

Note that in such cases, the "Copies Direct" button is still enabled.

Confirming the request

Upon clicking the "Get this" button, a second screen will be presented. If the item is a monograph (that is, a single-publication item, like a book, map, picture), no additional information is required. Journals (serial publications, like magazines and newspapers) need to have a volume, month and year specified:

Requests can be annotated and put on reserve, which keeps them available at the collection location for up to 5 days. Once the applicable information has been provided, click the button to submit your request:

Common problems

There is a limit to the number of requestable items per user. If this limit is reached, a message like this will be shown:

The system does let you check your requests so you can see what we think you currently have. If something is amiss, please contact the Catalogue helpdesk.
