A brief description of some of the sites
included in the tour:
1- Iran-e- Bastan Museum is a must see Museum that one
should not miss. The Museum consist of two important parts namely; pre
and post Islamic era. Most items included in the Museum selected from
among various excavations. The Museum include; Astronomy Equipment, Glass
Work and Medical Equipment, Hall of Clay and Ceramic, Painting and
Calligraphy, Quran Museum, and many more sections that attracts the
interest of any travelers. In Astronomy equipment section, one can see
various kind of astrolabe global and flat that dates back to 11th century
to the end of Ghajar era. Mohammad Ben Hamed Isfahani, has made the
oldest astrolabe which was made in 1170. In Quran Museum, one can find
Qurans that were made between 10th to 14th century.
2- Golestan Palace
complex is all that remains of Tehran's Historical Citadel (Arg) which
once glittered like a jewel. This historical Arg was built at the of Shah
Tahmasb I in Safavid period. It was reconstructed at the time
of Karim Khan Zand and was chosen as the venue of the royal court and
residence at the time of Qajar Kings. Nassereddin Shah introduced many
modifications in Golestan Palace buildings during his reign. Golestan Palace
is divided into seven parts namely; Anthropology Museum, Akskhaneh (house
of photography), Diamond Building, Howzkhaneh (house of piscine),
Negarkhaneh (Picture-Gallery), Marble Throne Veranda and Gushvareh
rooms, and Shams-Ul-Emareh Building.
3- Contemporary Arts Museum The Contemporary Arts Museum is
built in three floors and has been used as a permanent exhibition since
1977. This beautiful Museum comprises of specialized library, has got
about 3000 Persian, and 4000 foreign books in the field
of architecture, painting, cinema, industry, and photography. The
architectural style of this Museum resembles those of oriental countries
and is inspired by the wind-tower of Iran.
In other parts of Museum, one can find a book store, mostly
from Persian Artistic publication, and publication of the Museum. These
are some works and compilations of Persian Writers and Artists. The
contemporary Arts Museum is really a unique Museum that merits spending a
good deal of time.
4- Carpet Museum It was in
1976, that the foundation of Iranian Carpet Museum was suggested.
Following that, some of the qualified experts on carpet dispatched to
several cities and countries to collect different kinds of valuable
carpets, that were Persian made. The mission was accomplished after a
period of time, and Persian masterpieces were collected. Currently, there
are many valuable carpets on display in Iran Carpet Museum to preserve
the cultural heritage of Iran.
The exhibition hall of Museum covers 3400 square meters, containing two
halls used to display different kinds of Glims and handmade Rugs. The
ground floor is designed for fairs and the one upstairs to temporary
exhibition of Glims and Rugs.
One of the oldest and most important carpets, available in Iran Carpet
Museum, is a carpet belonging to Safavid era, called
"Sangeshkoo". There are also seven animal designed Carpets,
"Sheikh Safieddin Ardebili" Carpet, Garden Carpets and Tapis
Polonaise or Polish Carpets, which are some of the precious Persian Carpets
available in the whole world.
In Iran Carpet Museum, one can find masterpieces of Persian Carpets woven
at the main centers of Carpet weaving such as; Isfahan, Kashan, Kerman,
Khorasan, Kurdistan, Saroogh, etc...
One of the Carpets known as Polish Carpet was made in Isfahan, in 17th
century, to fill the order of a Polish Prince. This Carpet was
transferred to Poland at the time. Materials of these carpets are silk
fibers, as well as natural dyes woven together with gold and silver
threads. As many as 300 Carpets of this kind had been Identified
throughout the world, so far of which seven carpets have been brought and
returned to Iran.
In order to preserve the art of Glim and Rug weaving, Iran Carpet Museum
has founded a number of classes to teach Carpet weaving, design of Carpet
motifs and repair and darning of the damaged Rugs and Glims. At the end
of these courses, a valid certificate is awarded to students.
5- Sa'ad Abad has 18 Palaces, 7 of which have changed
into Museums. The Palaces are; Nation Palace, Green Palace, Rojat Palace,
Ebrat Palace (Mother), Vessels Palace, Dafineh Palace, Farideh Diba
Palace, Shahram Palace, Prince Palace, Leila Palace, Farahnaz Palace,
Hamid Reza Palace, Gholamreza Palace, Nasiri Palace, and Twin Ghajar
Palace.
The Museums located in other parts of the Palace are; Nation Arts Museum,
Green Museum, Anthropology Search Museum, Military Museum,
Mir Emad Museum: Abkar Museum, Behzad Museum, Fine Art Museum, Water
Museum.
