FAQ

Q: What is the process to have my model included in the "Best of 3D Warehouse" layer in Google Earth?

A: Not all models submitted to the 3D Warehouse are eligible for inclusion in the Best of 3D Warehouse layer. All models published to the 3D Warehouse go through a review process where they are checked for accuracy of location, visual completeness, polygon-count and overall quality. Only models that exist in the real world are eligible. We will not accept models of buildings that contain advertising not existing in the real world.

Q: When will I see my my model in the "Best of 3D Warehouse" layer?

A: Models are reviewed on a regular basis, but can take as long as 30 days to appear after being published to the 3D Warehouse. If you model does not appear after 30 days it's possible that it did not meet our acceptance criteria.

Q: How can I add my models to another user's collection?

A: Use the "contact owner" link in the collection to which you would like your model added. This will send an email to the owner of the collection. Please include the link to the model in the 3D Warehouse in your email so they know which model to add.

Q: What should I include in the "description" and "tags" boxes when adding a new model to the 3D Warehouse?

A: Include specific information related to your model such as its original name, architect, manufacturer, location, type of object, etc.

Q: Who do I contact about adding full city data to Google Earth?

A: Please use the "contact owner" link in the "Cities in Development" collection to let us know about your data. We will have someone contact you.

Q: Do you have methods for rapidly adding a large amount of data to the 3D Warehouse?

A: Yes, we have the ability to bulk upload to the 3D Warehouse. Access to this tool is restricted, so please contact us to inquire about the use of the tool.

Q: Where can I find a modeler to help me with my project?

A: Find a professional 3d modeler in our "3D Modeling Services" collection, and use their "contact owner" link to email them.

Q: What are the requirements to be considered for the "Cities in Development" collection?

A: We accept submissions of new collections (named after the city) that contain at least twelve (12) models of real-world buildings that are accurately located (georeferenced) in Google Earth. These models can be from multiple users, so be sure to choose the best available models in the city. Learn more about creating photo-textured models.

Q: How do I "Help Model a City"?

A: Go to the "Help Model a City" collection and look for any model that has a "Model Me!" sign sticking out of its terrain in the image. To start, download this terrain file with the sign to ensure that the model will be located on the right spot in Google Earth. Within each of the models in the collection is a link to a Picasa Web Album with all of the imagery you will need to create a great photo-textured model. To help you decide which model to work on and to find out which models have already been created, check for a link to a city's discussion forum in Google Groups. Learn more about creating photo-textured models for Google Earth.

Q: How do I add my city to the "Help Model a City" collection?

A: Your city will be added if you submit a new collection of models that each have correctly located Google Earth terrain, links to individual albums of imagery organized by building, and any other necessary information in the description. By providing photos and locations in the 3D Warehouse you are giving the community of 3D modelers all they need to start modeling your city, good luck! Optional: Create a discussion group in your collection to help organize building efforts toward your city.

Q: What are the requirements to be added to the "Featured Collections" collection?

A: We add unique collections that are well maintained and contain many high quality models.

Q: What are the requirements to be considered a "Featured Modeler"?

A: To be considered a "Featured Modeler", you must consistently develop high-quality, photo-textured 3D models of real-world buildings that are georeferenced (accurately located in Google Earth), developed with efficiency in mind (least amount of polygons possible), and result in beautiful 3D representations of the building. Submit a collection of all of your models, titled after your username, for consideration.

Q: What are the requirements for adding my products to the "Products" collection?

A: We only accept real products uploaded by manufacturers and resellers for this collection.

Q: Who do I contact about adding a full product catalog to the 3D Warehouse?

A: Please use the "contact owner" link in the "Products" collection to let us know about your catalog. We will have someone contact you.
