Once all but inaccessible except to the determined traveller, Gdansk has opened up with incoming flights from the UK courtesy of Ryanair. Of course for those afraid of flying, or for whom budget flights are still beyond the budget there are the traditional routes of access - train, bus or even the ferry for those coming from Denmark and Sweden.
Arriving in Gdansk by train
Arriving at Gdansk´s main station - Gdansk Glowny - puts the visitor right at the heart of the city, as any main station should. The station is on ul Podwale Grodzkie, and has a left luggage area on the main concourse which is open from 8am to 10pm.
Arriving in Gdansk by bus
The majority of international buses to Gdansk terminate in the main Gdansk Bus Station, which is situated close to the railway station. International buses arrive and depart from stance 8 just next to the Tourist Information Office, which opens at 10am and close at 5pm, with 30 minute for lunch from 1.30pm

BUS
About 8km west the centre, in the Rebiechowo area, is the Lech Walesa Airport - named after the leader of the Solidarity union and leader of the 1989 revolution. As noted above, Ryanair fly into, and out of, Gdansk from London Stanstead and Frankfurt´s Hahn airports. There are also other budget airlines flying to the west, such as Wizz Air which flies to Dortmund and Stockholm as well as London Luton. Despite being a smaller airport, the terminal has all the services that are expected from san international hub; car hire; bureau de change (not open at weekends) and an information desk. On the first floor there is also a restaurant and newsagent.
Getting to the city from the airport
Right in front of the terminal is the main taxi rank, it is from here that a taxi should be taken. Many people will offer their services inside the terminal building, we recommend you ignore them and head for the rank. Official taxis are easily recognised by the sign 9686 on the roof of the car, companies such as City Plus and Hallo taxis are the best to use. From the airport to the centre of the city should cost around 40zl which is about 10 Euros. During the night, there is a 50% surcharge for taking a taxi.
Whilst City Plus and Hallo taxis may not be the cheapest, they will not overcharge you. As these companies are formally registered they are responsible for the actions of their drivers. Always be sure that the driver´s meter is switched on.
Infinitely cheaper than a taxi is getting a bus. Take bus B from the airport to the main station - Gdansk Glowny - or bus 110 to Gdansk Wrzeszcz railway station. The trip takes about 40 minutes and costs 2.80zl, which is about 60 euro cents. Tickets are bought on the bus, from the driver, at 1.40zl a piece - tickets have to be bought in books of three - and then punch two to validate them for the journey
