Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies 'much anticipated' Grand Opening on this whopping 66 MILLION DOLLAR project was on December 15, 2000! This opening date was pushed back and pushed back, when the local paper ran the story that the attraction may be opening that weekend, it almost seemed 'too good to be true'. Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies, did in fact open that following weekend! This was never a 'rushed' project, and many of the delays were simply due to the management's un-willingness to compromise the animal's safety, leaving no stone unturned, delivering this unsurpassed 'underwater fantasy world' that will literally take your breath away!
Enjoy your guided 'sneak-preview' to one of the most amazing sights ever visited by the writer. Once you have completed the virtual tour, we're sure you will plan to visit Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies at your very first opportunity. Remember, some of the pictures are slightly blurry as many of the photos were take though 6 INCHES OF ACRYLIC that enables you to literally walk along the bottom of the ocean floor, while schools of fish swim within inches of you including: sting rays, sea turtles, snappers, and GIANT SHARKS within an arms reach of you. (Thank goodness FOR that 6 INCHES OF ACRYLIC!)
