Traffic Sources: All Traffic Sources - to optimize campaigns: Google Analytics Power User Part 8

When you are deciding how to allocate your online dollars you will want to have a solid understand of how your campaigns have performed in the past. A great way to get a quick high level handle on this is with the All Traffic Sources Report.

So let's start with a couple of definitions. What do Source and Medium mean?

Source is the referring site, that is, the domain of the site that a visitor has clicked on; a link that has taken them over to your site. Some common referral sources are search engines (both paid and organic), a link from an affiliate's site, a blog or article, an email, a partner or any other site that has a link to you. Reciprocal Saws, Xenu and Google Analytics

Our tools are a little different...

A few months ago a friend of mine made one of the most important purchases that someone can make in his life by buying his first house. Like most first time home buyers he wasn't able to build it from scratch and ended up buying an older home that needed some occasional maintenance. Squeaky doors, clogged drains and leaky faucets are all items that need to be fixed from time to time. Depending on the problem, you can fix some of these items yourself and if you can't you should at least be aware of them so that you can call in the professionals.

Building a profitable website can be very much like maintaining a home. There are too many site owners that are in the dark of where potential problems could be hiding. In order to find issues or evaluate progress, owners need to get there hands of a few items that can shed some light on how things are doing.

Automatically Skip the Checklist Step of Google Website Optimizer

If you hate useless page loads as much as I do, or if you're a GWO power user, I think you will like this userscript automation.

The userscript is very simple, in the image below the checkbox circled is automatically checked (if it wasn't already because your faster than code), and then the create button (circled below) is pressed. It works for both A/B test setup process and the MVT test setup process.

Goals and Funnel Visualization Report: Google Analytics Power User Part 8

Goals: Funnel Visualization - to optimize your conversion funnels

Next up in the Google Analytics Power User series we will review path analysis using Google Analytics' Funnel Visualization Report. When you went through the process of configuring the goals for your website you had the option of setting up or defining a funnel for your goals. Funnels are most applicable to goals that have a well defined path that a visitor will follow prior to completing the goal. Examples of this would be the shopping cart of an ecommerce site, or the steps in a web form prior to submitting it, or an online reservation system... Not all goals can or should have a funnel.

Ecommerce Hint #7: Show number of product reviews

Shopping for a coffee grinder recently, I visited my favorite coffee site, www.greenbeanery.ca. After finding a model I liked and navigating to its product page, I noted a link to reviews at the bottom:

Naturally, I wanted to see the product reviews. So I clicked the link and was frustrated. Instead of reviews, I got a page telling me there weren't any:

Will the world end on Friday 13th 2009 at 3:31:30PM?

In writing today's murderous post on Google Analytics Cookies I happened to plug the value 1234567890 into my "Unix time stamp" converter, and what did I find?

Try it:

Timestamp converter

Talk of paranoia and superstition! Would that be 3:31:30PM Pacific Standard Time?

Happy Valentine's Day!!!
