| This exhibition devoted to Sonia Rykiel marking the 40th anniversary of her house. Sonia Rykiel is a pionneer: using figure-hugging black fabrics in the late 60s, exposing the insides and unfinished hems of her garments, and even daring to use materials such as sponge. The exhibition is composed of clothes, fashion photographs and fashion show videos. | The Theatre Mogador is hosting the "Lion King" musical comedy of the same name, based on the cartoon film, this autumn. Julie Taymor has turned the film version into an enchanting theatre adaptation. She had rewritten the story and enriched it with new songs by Elton John, African melodies and beats, choreography and lively decor. The production requires no fewer than 400 costumes, 200 masks and over 100 puppets. Don’t expect to see the artistes hidden within their costumes. Julie Taymor brilliantly emphasises the duality of man and beast in each character by placing the masks above the actors’ heads. Featuring about 40 artistes and 20 actors, the production has been entirely dubbed in French, from the dialogues to the songs. | |

The Italian Primitives

The Jacquemart-André Museum invites you to be charmed and bedazzled by these great masters of Italian painting of the XIIIth to XVth centuries.
Considered to be one of the largest collections of Italian Primitives. This collection of masterpieces by the Italian Primitives was acquired early in the XIXth century by the baron Bernard von Lindenau (1779-1854). An eminent politician, art enthusiast and philanthropist, Von Lindenau opened a vast, classical-style house in his native town of Altenburg, south of Dresden, in 1848 in order to exhibit his collections of works of art and to encourage wider access to culture.
The exhibition highlights the succession of major trends which deeply transformed Italian art between the second half of the XIIIth century and the end of the XVth century. The Greek style and Byzantine influence on the one hand and the appearance of the modern style after Giotto and the spread of the international Gothic style on the other, gradually gave way to the Renaissance style.
The radiance of the golds, the subtlety of the colours, the elegance of the lines, the expressive power of the scenes and the spiritual power of their message combine to give these works a poetry full of grace and depth.
