TWENTYMILE REOPENS TO SNOWMOBILE USE
ANCHORAGE, Alaska Twentymile River Drainage has reopened to snowmachine use, as of Wednesday, March 18, 2009. The area has 18 inches of snow on top of 3-inches of ice. Snowmachines may only cross the tracks at areas designated by the Alaska Railroad.
Winter recreationists need to be aware of changing weather and snow conditions. Avalanche conditions exist in many areas due to wind loading and localized conditions. Avalanche advisories are available at www.avalanche.org or 907-754-2369.
Individuals interested in motorized use on the Chugach National Forest are encouraged to call one of the following Forest Service offices to find out about snowmachining opportunities:
- Glacier District Office (Girdwood): 907-783-3242
- Cordova District Office: 907-424-7661
- Seward District Office: 907-224-3374
- Anchorage Supervisor’s Office: 907-743-9500
Modified dates and partial closures of motorized use will be advertised by public announcement (Forest Order 02-07-10 signed July 10, 2002).
Violations of motorized closures may result in a fine.

Join a Resource Advisory Committee
Would you like to help spend over a million dollars on projects that benefit the Chugach National Forest? The Secure Rural Schools and Community Self Determination Act of 2008 seeks to improve relationships between land managers and local communities through the creation of Resource Advisory Committees.
These committees will bring together diverse interests to collectively identify and propose projects that improve existing infrastructure, enhance forest ecosystems, and restore land health and water quality on National Forest land and adjacent properties.
The Chugach National Forest is currently accepting applications from individuals interested in serving on a committee.

Avalanche Season in Full Swing
Pockets of considerable avalanche hazard at multiple elevations have developed. There is potential for human-triggered avalanche activity all weekend.
Remember, clear, blue bird skies can give false confidence and could get you in trouble.
