After graduating, Phil relocated back to Santa Barbara to seek employment. Eventually, he became active in the community and helped establish the Santa Barbara Fish and Game Advisory Committee where he served as Chairman for over 3 years. He also served as President of the local chapter of Trout Unlimited and Vice President of The Santa Barbara Mariculture Foundation. Phil also joined Mark Capelli in founding The Friends of the Ventura River. For several years in the mid to late 70's, Phil published a weekly fishing column in the Goleta Valley Today newspaper titled "Phil's Fishing Lines". In 1979, Phil relocated to San Jose in search of engineering employment. Phil has worked for several firms in the Bay Area including PMI, Sperry Univac, Hewlett Packard, Cisco Systems, and several other firms in the bay area. He has presented papers at several conferences in Santa Clara County and one in Washington DC. In 2000, Phil took 3 of his children on a vacation to Alaska where he met Mark Glassmaker. Mark and Phil became immediate friends as both shared a common love and respect for the steelhead. In 2003, Phil took over the management of Mark's web site, adding content, and making it what it is today. Phil also manages the Kenai River Professional Guide Association web site. In 2006, Phil joined the Santa Clara County Fish and Game Commission and in 2008 was elected Chairman. Phil continues to remain active in fisheries issues in California. Besides fishing, Phils other interests include gardening, cooking, writing, photography and technology.
