The Kenai Watershed Forum (KWF) is a local 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to maintaining the health of the watersheds on the Kenai Peninsula, Alaska. KWF is recognized as the regional watershed organization of the Kenai Peninsula, Alaska, successfully identifying and addressing the needs of the region by providing high quality EDUCATION, RESTORATION, and RESEARCH programs.
Our mission is “working together for healthy watersheds on the Kenai Peninsula”. KWF is a dynamic and maturing organization that is poised to serve the Kenai Peninsula and the State of Alaska with increasing effectiveness in the near and distant future.

The Rasmuson Foundation grants
$50,000 to KWF
The Rasmuson Foundation Board of Directors met in early November in Anchorage and awarded $5,658,612 to 12 organizations through grants and investments, and voted to extend support for two programs managed by the Foundation, including $500,000 for five years’ additional support for the Pick. Click. Give. Program. The Kenai Watershed Forum was among the twelve, receiving a $50,000 grant for our building project!

This charitable award will greatly benefit our capital building project and brings the organization one step closer to actualizing our goal of creating office and lab space for our programs and staff. AK Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (AK-CESCL)
Storm Water Training Program
Kenai/Soldotna Area • February 14 & 15, 2011
Homer Area • February 16 & 17, 2011
This AK-CESCL training explains the erosion process and how to obtain and comply with the EPA NPDES Construction General Permit. NPDES compliance is required for all projects that disturb a total of one acre or more of soil, and a Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead-trained person is required on all USACE and ADOT&PF projects as of January 1, 2008. The course will describe the key elements of a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and provide detailed instructions on how to maintain a SWPPP, and select, install and maintain stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs). This AK-CESCL class also meets requirements for recertification.

Kenai Peninsula Fish Habitat Partnership
The Kenai Peninsula Fish Habitat Partnership (KPFHP) was approved as a recognized Fish Habitat Partnership at a meeting of the National Fish Habitat Action Plan Board on Friday January 15, 2010. KPFHP becomes the 15th regional partnership in the U. S. and represents the 3rd such partnership in Alaska. These partnerships, developed concurrently with the National Fish Habitat Plan, are designed to raise awareness of fish initiatives, assign priorities, and generate annual congressional support to improve aquatic habitat.
