Model Policies
Model Law-Enforcement Policy and Procedures for Reports of Missing and
Abducted Children
Missing children cases can be among the most challenging and emotionally
charged that a law-enforcement agency will ever experience. The approach
an agency takes in responding could determine whether the child is recovered
promptly and safely. A thorough law enforcement response is vital for
each stage of the case, from initial investigation to successful recovery.
Standards
for Calltakers when Handling Calls Pertaining to Missing and Sexually
Exploited Children
Time is critical when responding to reports of missing or sexually exploited
children. How these reports are handled is important and can mean the
difference between life and death for many children. Yet, there is no
standardized process that is used by the nation’s 9-1-1 Call Centers
when answering these types of calls. These standards have been created
to address that problem. They provide a step-by-step protocol of how
call takers should handle calls of missing or sexually exploited children.
