Kayaks and equipment provided on the above adventures include: Tandem (Double), Triple (2 paddlers and 1 small passenger), and single kayaks. Paddles, PFD’s, and spray skirts are also provided. All ages are welcome as are all skill levels. You should bring along a lunch (if needed), water, sun protection, and some type of water shoes such as sandals. The tandem kayak is our primary kayak of choice for the trips. If weather conditions suggest the use of wet or dry suits we will provide those. We also supply everyone with a soft cooler for their lunch and dry bags for personal equipment. If you happened to bring a pet along remember none are allowed at the Pictured Rocks or Grand island. We have a kennel at our shop or there are commercial animal boarding facilities in Munising and Marquette.
From day trips along the Pictured National Lakeshore to multi-day expeditions Paddling Michigan is your source to great paddling opportunities in these areas. Our guides are all ACA Coastal Sea Kayak Instructors and are experienced in making your trip a fun filled and safe expedition that you’ll be rounding up your friends to come back again. Some great sea kayaking trips we offer are: Pictured Rocks, Grand Island, Presque Isle to Marquette, Big Bay, Huron Islands, Isle Royale, and the Soo Locks and St. Mary’s River. We can handle groups up to 30 in size with both tandem and single kayaks. You may also rent sea kayaks if your have received training from an ACA authorized instructor on general information, paddle strokes, rescues, and wet exits. We offer this training if you need it.
Essential Kayaking – 6 hours – $65.Offered by appointment only. Minimum 4 people.
An in-depth introduction to basic strokes, boat control, and the fundamental elements of kayaking. Learning these basic skills along with instruction in rescues will give you a sound foundation of paddling skills and safety awareness so that you can confidently develop as a kayaker.
Learn and practice wet exits, partner rescues, and self rescues. Gain confidence in recovering from a capsize and know how to help your paddling partner back into their boat. Plan on getting wet and bring an extra change of clothes.
Instruction includes kayak, wetsuit, paddle, pfd, bilge pump, paddle float, and spray skirt.
Our Essential Kayaking and our Rescues Clinic fulfills the prerequisite for our rental program.
