On Jan. 21, 2017, the day after Donald Trump was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States, White House press secretary Sean Spicer held the first news conference of the Trump era and falsely claimed that Trump’s inaugural crowd was the largest in history. While this falsehood was not in and of itself seriously consequential, it set the stage for a presidency that would be marred with misinformation. 

Over the next four years, Snopes researched thousands of claims related to the Trump administration. These claims ranged from silly to serious and dealt with everything from nonsensical tweets to bad health advice and false allegations of election fraud.

As Trump leaves office on Jan. 20, 2021, we look back on some of the moments from the Trump era that history may not soon forget.
