Ideal for any business traveller who needs to be able to get around confidently. (Sunday Business)
"Moving along at a relaxed, slow pace, punctuated by amusing anecdotes and jokes from the teacher, the new words, phrases and language rules are gently introduced and reinforced through subtle repetition without ever being tedious. In fact, despite a distinct emphasis on non-work, the course proves very effective and enjoyable, and its format is ideal for learning anywhere you like. So, if you only want to learn to speak the language, this course is highly recommended." (Top Real Travel Product, Real Travel)
"Excellent for learning ... This entirely audio course is easy to use and quickly results in some useful ability in the new language. Great for the car." (Adventure Travel)

Learning from your knowledge of English you construct phrases in Portuguese rather than learn words. For example, all 'cion' words like 'information' in English all end 'ção' in Portuguese - so 'informação'. You're encouraged to see the patterns and think it through yourself rather than parrot back.
The course fails slightly on a few things - mainly that pronouncing Portuguese is very hard, and more attention is needed especially with the vowel sounds. It's not too helpful. Also, the section on Brazilian Portuguese is literally 5mins at the very end - disappointing and odd, especially as Brazilian is much easier to pronounce than European (in my opinion at least). Finally, the voice and attitude of the main speaker is grating, especially after eight hours - she's a bit too patronising and nasal to listen too comfortably.
All in all, good, but not a patch on Michel's original courses.
During my trip to Portugal I spent all the time with my Portuguese girlfriend's family and friends and I was able to understand most of the conversations and speak to them in a basic way, but they understood me which is the important bit!
I am Spanish which helps a lot, however this is a prefect introduction to anyone willing to learn this beautiful language!
Michel's lessons in Spanish flowed a lot better, and the content was a pleasure to listen to. He had two students, one strong and one weak. he explained everything and used excellent mnemonics which I've never forgotten.
Whereas Ms Catmur has two students, plus a native Portuguese speaker to clarify things and give correct pronunciation. Some of the sessions sound very disorganised and unplanned, and it gets annoying when Catmur repeatedly asks the Portuguese to repeat things with "lets hear that lovely nasal twang". It's a little patronising, as if she thinks she knows better than someone actually from Portugal. She should have written the course, and let the native speaker teach it...it just gets too confusing with four people speaking.
It's a shame that Michel didn't produce this course, as I wouldn't have felt like giving up. Unlike his Spanish course, I just don't feel like I'm picking much up with this.
