ALLIANCE FOR TELECOMMUNICATIONS INDUSTRY SOLUTIONS

SIF is comprised of several working groups dedicated to identifying SONET network and equipment interoperability issues and, more importantly, defining solutions. A brief explanation of each of SIF's working groups follows. Work groups are established as a technical need is defined and agreed to by SIF.

The InterCarrier Interface Specification (ICI) group is defining the network interface between two network providers to preclude cascading network failures.
The Network Management (NM) group has several subgroups that work the technical issues regarding SONET network management.
The Remote Login group has succesfully defined a requirements document for remote login and has protyped an implementation.
The TARP/X.500 (Target Address Resolution Protocol) group focuses on the resolution of TL1 Target Identifiers (TIDs) to X.500 protocol addresses (Network Service Access Point (NSAP) Addresses.
The Testing Group is addressing both conformance and interoperability testing of SONET networks and equipment.
