II. What is THINKfast?

THINKfast is the world's first interactive software that speeds & sharpens your brain. Frequent play clears out brain fuzz, clarifies & quickens the senses & energizes your brain. THINKfast is quite unlike any other game you've ever played. In fact, it's not just a game... it's a game for your brain.

Playing THINKfast requires no special skills or knowledge, you simply press certain keys on the keyboard depending upon the appearance of random (sudden & unexpected) events on the screen.

Because your scores are based on reacting as fast as you can without making any mistakes, you may experience a buzz from the adrenaline surge. And, because each of the 6 Brain-games engage 6 different areas of your brain, you can count on a complete whole-brain workout & warm up.

THINKfast is a progressive series of neuro-stimulating Brain-games that tune up your brain for peak mental performance.

IV. What is a Brain-game?

Typical brain-games, such as crossword puzzles, are great challenges for your mind, but not necessarily your brain. A true Brain-game needs to challenge the brain-muscle much like exercising with weights develops muscles of the body.

THINKfast employs a new genre of cognitive tasks which interactively challenge the speed, accuracy & consistency of your brain's information processing powers.

Using the scientific principles of *biofeedback* THINKfast actually trains improvements in your physical perceptual, and cognitive reflexes & decision-making abilities.

THINKfast's score, that is, your Brainpower level, is based on over 50 years of Cognitive Science research in a field called 'cognitive chronometrics'.

V. How is THINKfast packaged?

THINKfast is a compressed (@ 908Kb) digital file downloadable from the BrainTainment Center.

VI. Does THINKfast come with a user's manual?

Yes and no. Everything you need to know about THINKfast is in the Help file. BrainTainment Resources, Inc. is a virtual company committed to the environment. In this case that means saving trees & fossil fuel by not printing & shipping paper & plastic hard goods.

VII. How does this Brain-game compare with other games?

THINKfast is for gamers AND non-gamers. In fact, busy executives who don't have time for computer games make time for THINKfast! This is not a combat game. No Morks, Thwarbs or Zcyberdorks in sight to ambush & confound you! However, performance does rely heavily on the speed, accuracy & consistency of your cognitive & perceptual, as well as physical, reflexes (which are improvable, incidentally).

The only enemy lies within as you & your mind are challenged to improve against a running average (baseline) of your daily mental performance cycles.

Yes, there are other games that require quick reflexes... typically physical reflexes. What differentiates THINKfast, however, is the enhanced cognitive complexity & decision-making emphasis of the challenges.

If, for instance, you're playing a typical arcade game where you're tested on the speed of your reaction to, say, an unexpected ambush by Darth Vader, or a sharp curve in the Indy 500 race track, your reaction is a simple physical reflex with no cognitive skill involved.

However, if you have to make a split-second (i.e., millisecond) choice between two or more options, then cognition is involved.

Depending upon the complexity of the choice (number of options, rules, memory required, etc.) a considerably greater amount of your brain's processing capacity is engaged.

So, typical computer games challenge only a small part of your brain. THINKfast challenges all of your brain, "warming it up" in the process.

And, THINKfast continuously adjusts the complexity of its Brain-games to fully challenge (& improve) the processing powers of your brain.

CHALLENGE TO ALL GAMERS

OK, so you're great at Mortal Kombat, Doom or Descent. Well let's see what happens when you have to use more of your brain... much more! Guaranteed, it won't be the same. In fact, Mentor will take you back to ground zero faster than you can say "think fast!"

VIII. Why are the experts excited about THINKfast?

Professionals in the Cognitive sciences, brain-mind & educational fields are excited about THINKfast because it may be the first, fun & entertaining game that really develops your powers of attention, or focus, every time you play.

And, psychologists believe that THINKfast can not only sharpen an already sharp brain, but that it may even be able to retard or arrest the degeneration of physical & cognitive reflexes resultant from aging & brain abuse over the years.

IX. What results can I expect to see, and how soon can I expect to see them?

It usually takes 5 to 10 games until you're comfortably settled in. Then your Brainpower Level should show a gradual improvement over time.

The first THINKfast players (circa 6/15/94) are still (August, '96) seeing improvements in brain speed & efficiency after two years of daily play. This tends to manifest as greater mental clarity & quickness.

The major improvement you should notice will be in your focusing powers. And, wait until you experience the real life thrills & rewards of being more alert, attentive & clearheaded!

X. Who might benefit from THINKfast?

THINKfast can be beneficial to students wanting to sharpen their attention skills & brain processing speed for improved learning & testing; for athletes (& weekend warriors, of course) and gamers who want faster physical & perceptual reflexes; for baby boomers & seniors who want to slow down or possibly reverse the dreaded erosion of physical & cognitive reflexes.

Although only one player can play at any one time, up to 20 users can play & have their own private password and History file.

Each player can compare their Brainpower Level & individual performance scores with any other.

THINKfast is great for the whole family.

XI. How long will it take until I outgrow or get bored with this game, like most other games?

You won't... there's always room for improvement & learning. Since there are an infinite number of achievement (Brainpower) levels it's highly unlikely that anyone will ever beat the game. Even achieving Brain-Master is a noteworthy achievement in this lifetime.

Unlike most games where you finally figure them out, it's impossible with THINKfast. For one thing, the games are presented in a random fashion so, unless you're consistently psychic, you never know quite when you're going to be challenged & by what. For another, many of the Brain-games interactively adjust their complexity based on your performance in that moment.

It's important to remember that with THINKfast you're really not playing against any standards other than yourself. That is, it's you, your brain & your mind against your own performance baseline. This feature, along with your History file, enables you to determine when your bio-computer (brain ;) is going to be really On or really Off.

Wouldn't you like to know when you're going to be hot or not, when you should act or just lay back?

Since THINKfast's feedback constantly alerts you to conditions (diet, sleep, nutritional supplements, etc.) that boost or bust your brain powers, you'll have a lifetime of learning ahead of you.

XIV. How do I set up Netscape so I can download the THINKfast Installer file?

(or any ".exe" file, for that matter!)
  1. Launch Netscape
  2. Select Options/General Preferences
  3. Select the "Helper" tab
  4. Scroll down to where you see ".exe" in the column on the right.
  5. Change its "Action" to "Save to Disk"
That should fix your problem. From now on, after you click on a download link, it'll ask you where you want to save it on your hard drive. You should check and see if you can find this option in the Netscape version you're using. The Mac screenshot here shows the fundamentals about how to change this in Netscape. It's a Mac screenshot, but the info's all there. :->

XV. How can I download THINKfast for my Internet-connected Mac and transfer it to my Windows machine?

Most of this is identical to the previous HELP answer, but here is a screenshot that'll help you even more. I choose to have my computer "Prompt user". It seems to work better for maintaining the integrity of the binary executable file than if I tell Netscape to default to "Save to Disk".
