Burn offense ignites against Colorado

DALLAS--Jason Kreis and Dante Washington each scored twice to lead the Dallas Burn (13-13) to a 4-1 win over the Colorado Rapids (13-14) Sunday afternoon. The smallest crowd in Burn history, 4,451, was on hand at the Cotton Bowl as the team snapped a four-game losing streak.

Washington slammed the game-winner into an open net in the 35th minute. Rapids goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann was out of position after blocking a shot by 21st-minute substitute Kreis, whose penalty kick had put Dallas on the board in the 31st minute. Marcelo Balboa had fouled Kreis during a collision in the box to set up the penalty.

In the 67th minute, Washington dodged Sean Henderson at the top of the box and launched a low shot that slipped inside the left post to make the score 3-0. Kreis capped the win by bending a 76th-minute free kick around the defensive wall and in.

Sharp footwork by Adrian Paz set up the lone Colorado goal. The Uruguayan midfielder dribbled through the Dallas defense and drew 'keeper Mark Dodd off his line before centering the ball to Steve Trittschuh for the finish.
