Aviation Role

The aviation mission of the Florida Department of Transportation is to provide a safe, cost effective aviation system that is part of the interconnected statewide transportation system for Florida's citizens and visitors that ensures the mobility of people and goods, while enhancing economic prosperity and sustaining the quality of our environment.

The Department provides leadership on aviation issues for all levels of government - local, state, and federal - to ensure Florida's aviation interests benefit. Further, the Department provides leadership in technological areas and promotes sharing of information and technical advances with local, state, and national aviation interests.

The Department's district offices manage more than $90 million annually in state grants to airports for construction and planning studies. These grants are instrumental in attracting more than $60 million annually from the Federal Aviation Administration.
