Miami
is a new TCP/IP protocol stack to access the
Internet by modem, cable modem, ISDN modem, or to
access local networks by Ethernet/Arcnet. If
you are currently using AmiTCP/IP or I-Net 225
then you should give Miami a try. It is very
easy to install and use. Most users can get
online in just a few minutes, and there are no
configuration files to edit. Miami usually finds
most of the configuration (DNS servers etc.) by
itself. You only have to enter some simple
information, like the phone number you need to
dial and your user name and password, and you
enter this information through a comfortable
graphical user interface (based on MUI or GLayout). You do not
need to configure any device drivers
(ppp.device/slip.device, SANA-II etc.) or other
software modules.
All you need to get connected to the Internet
is already built in to Miami (PPP/SLIP, dialer,
modem control, TCP/IP kernel,...). For a complete
Amiga Internet setup all you need is:
- Miami
- (recommended): MUI (Magic User
Interface)
- a web browser (e.g. VoyagerNG or IBrowse)
- an email program, (e.g. YAM)
- (recommended): an FTP client (e.g. AmFTP)
Miami is compatible with AmiTCP/IP, i.e.
programs written for AmiTCP/IP work with Miami without
changes or recompilation. Programs written for
AS-225 or I-Net 225 can also be used with Miami.
In this case you need the freeware
"socket.library" emulation, available
e.g. in the Grapevine
archive on Aminet.
Miami is shareware. The registration
fee is $35. A $10 discount is available to
registered users of ppp.device.

list, and at our direct comparison of Miami
to other TCP/IP stacks in "Dare
to Compare".
New: The current version of
Miami is 3.0d. This version should fix the lockups
during `Finding Hostname...' that some users have seen.
If you registered for Miami 1.x/2.x earlier,
then you are usually eligible for an upgrade to
Miami 3.0. Users who registered recently (after
June 15th, 1997) receive the upgrade to 3.0 for free.
Users who registered earlier can upgrade to 3.0
after paying an upgrade fee of US$ 12.00. Some
