mounting a tubular |
![]() |
1. A tubular needs to be stretched prior to mounting. If you do not stretch a tubular; mounting the will be very difficult, you will likely damage the tubular and you will certainly make a mess. The best way to stretch a tubular is to put it on a rim without glue, inflate the tubular 3-4 bar and let it sit for 2 weeks out of direct sunlight in a cool dry place off of its tread. Do not worry if the tubular feels loose when mounting it on the rim, this is normal. |

2. With 80-100 grit sand paper lightly
sand the well of the rim. |

3. With an oil-free solvent (i.e.: rubbing alcohol, nail polish remover, warm water) rub down the well of the rim. Take a dry rag and dry the excess solvent from the well of the rim thoroughly. |

4. Make sure the rim is dry and evenly apply a small amount of glue to the well of the rim and let the rim sit for one day (depending on the glue you are using, consult a Vittoria dealer). |

7. Using two hands take the tubular, starting at the top of the rim fit the tubular into the well. Work it uniformly at the same time around the rim with both hands. Nearing the end of the rim, brace the tubular and rim with one hand and fit the remainder of the tubular onto the rim with the other. If the tubular has been stretched properly it should be easily mounted. |

8. Make certain at this point that the tubular is seated in the center of the rim. Checking the basetape of the tubular is a good way to see if it is centered in the rim. Adjust the tubular so it sits in the center of the rim promptly after mounting. |
