JDF Volunteers Advocate for Increased Diabetes Research Funding

Washington D.C.; April 21—John J. and Allison McDonough—a father and daughter both with Type 1 diabetes—testified before a House Appropriations Subcommittee on the urgency for funding of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) at levels recommended by the recent Congressionally mandated Diabetes Research Working Group (DRWG).

MTM Jan. 99—The new JDF public service announcement (PSA) campaign features the Foundation’s International Chairman, Mary Tyler Moore. Mary, who has had diabetes for over 30 years, filmed the spot with her friends Joey, 7, Samantha, 9, Jennifer, 10, and Will, 12. Video, storyboard, print ads, and a new series of Web banners underscore the central message: “Insulin is not a cure”—Go to JDF PSAs.

RESEARCH:  JDF Children’s Congress

NEWS:  Diabetes Awareness Stamp

JDF Stamp  Get involved in the JDF-spearheaded international campaign for a Diabetes Awareness Postage Stamp to be issued by the U.S. Postal Service.

The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation (JDF) International was founded in 1970 by parents of children with diabetes. Their mission: to find a cure for the disease within their children’s lifetime through the support of research. Commitment to this mission by JDF will be more than $50 million this year, for a cumulative total of over $300 million—more money for diabetes research than any other nonprofit, nongovernmental health agency in the world.
