Where to Search
In Power
Search you can:
-
Use a keyword search to find search terms in the keywords field of
support documents.
-
Use a full text search to find search terms anywhere in documents.
-
Use the pop-up choices to limit your searches to specific product, platform, and centers.
Currently, only Web pages in the support
areas are tagged with product and platform information, so to find
pages outside the support area, leave the Product Center and Platform
fields at (Whole Site) and (None Specified).
In Macromedia's top-level search,
your search results are displayed in a very simple format.
In a support area, your searches
are restricted to the support documents in that product's center and the
General TechNotes.
The
French,
German,
and
Japanese
areas of Macromedia's Web site do not appear in search results.
Useful Searches
You can perform the
following searches in a support area
search or in Power Search:
- For the FAQ's (frequently asked questions), enter importance > 2
in the search field. In any search results page, click the symbol
next to (rank)
to display the most important TechNotes first.
- For a numbered list of every TechNote, do not enter any search text,
and on the search results page click the symbol
next to ID # to display the newest TechNotes first.
- For recently changed support documents (not just the new ones), enter
datemodified > 4/18/98 in the search
field (replace 4/18/98 with the date you want in MM/DD/YY
format).
- For Tips & Tricks TechNotes, enter tips <near> tricks
- For TechNotes that apply to (for example) version 5 of
a product, enter verfrom <= 5 AND verto >= 5
Entering Searches
- To find documents containing as many of your search terms as possible,
enter several search terms separated with commas.
- To search for a single phrase,
separate the words of the phrase with spaces.
- To expand or contract a search, separate search terms with AND and OR respectively.
- To find a document by its ID number,
enter its number into the search field.
- To search for a number other than a document ID number, put double quotes around it, for example "5.01".
- Use * as a multiple-character wildcard. Use ? as a single-character wildcard.
- You can't search for special characters
such as -, #, &, and %,
so leave them out or use wildcards in their place.
- To find one word near another, enter (word<near>anotherword).
- To combine searches, surround each with parentheses and join them with AND or OR,
for example:
(datemodified>7/1/97) AND (video <near> sprite)
- To see every document, click Search or press Enter.
It's unnecessary to erase the
enter your text here
text first.
Support
Search Results Explained
The top-level
search results are very simple, just a score, title, and first few
words of each matching document. The
support search results are more sophisticated and are described here.
Click the
symbols
next to the headings to re-sort search results according to these criteria:
- Score: How well the document matches the search.
- (rank):
The importance of the document. No rings means old information. (Sort
on this column heading to display more significant documents first.)
- Document Title: Name of the document.
- Product / Platform: Product name and platform (Macintosh, Windows,
or both).
- Version: Version(s) of the product to which the document applies.
- ID #: The numeric document ID. (Enter the document ID to quickly
locate a TechNote; sort on this column heading to display the newest
documents first.)
