SANTAMAN
How it started
"What should this game be like?" whe asked ourselves when we started
this project.
New ideas came to us (Lou Eightecs and Pachy, who is the creator of the
Santaman character) all the time and things that seemed easy, could sometimes
get really complicated when it came to programming. Sometimes we didn't
do anything for weeks, just because it was too difficult.
The sprites
The sprites are made on the most primitive sprite editor you can
think of. No amimation
or colour-correction facilities or anything. The only thing you could do
with it was to put pixels in different colors on a grid and then translate
the picture to a pascal file. Well, it's no Donkey Kong Country, but
we're still happy with what we did.
The game
The year is unknown. A factory has being used by a gang mutants for
a long time and people say strange things are going on there.
When Santaman heard about this, he decided to clean up the factory.
Equipped with his bazooka, he goes there to see what he can do about
it. Santaman is not a hero and the mutants are dangerous, but when
it comes to prevent this world from self destruction, Santaman will
always do everything he can.
The game is a non-scrolling, old style, platform shooter and it's a tribute
to the early '80s coin-ops. DK and Wrecking Crew are the
biggest influences.
What people say about the game
When making games, we try to come up with something that at
least we will like. We never expected though, our little character
would gain this much popularity! Just see what people have to
say about it:
"LOVE the game! Do you make more? I love tiny dos
games. They are usually very fun, and this was no exception.
Up to floor 7!"
"This is a great game. I have to admit that my fav.
level is the "Donkey Kong" level. If you put out another version let
me know. Thanks for creating a great game!"
"Your game, Santaman is one of the most addicting ones I have seen
in a long time. Especially as freeware. I love it. Also, I really
like the enemies, they are hysterical. Congratulations on a great game"
"Santaman kicks butt! I can't belive this tiny little game is so
cool. I'm looking forward to future releases from DEM Innovations"
This is just a few of the e-mail that have arrived, and we're
very proud of it. Thank you all.
No more talking, give me the game!
