When
did Boone County adopt county zoning?
If you do any new construction,
reconstruction, or movement of any structure on a piece of property in which the footprint of the structure is changed,
you will need to obtain a Zoning Permit.
Zoning Permit fees are
based on the valuation of construction. Permit fees are generally
.1% of the total valuation of construction. For example, if
you are building a $100,000 home, your permit fee will be $100.
If the valuation of construction is less than $25,000 then your
fees will be determined by a range of values. Up to $5,000
is a $20 fee, $5,001 to $10,000 is a $25 fee, $10,001 to $25,000
is a $30 fee.
Please see the fee scedule here for current fees.

This is called a land
inquiry. You will submit a legal description or plat of survey to
our office and identify the area on a digital photo. After you explain
what you would like to do with the land, the inquiry will be submitted
to the Zoning Administrator. They will make a determination and a
letter will be mailed out to you with thier response.
Currently
all subdivisions are regulated with the Boone County Zoning Ordinance and Land Division Ordinance.
The Zoning Administrator, County Auditor, County Engineer
and the Board of Supervisors are involved in the process.
Please see the Ordinance section of the website for more information.

Boone County Zoning Ordinance has a setbacks table for each zoning district. This district is different than your tax district and should be confirmed using the Boone County GIS mapping system or by calling the Planning and Development office at (515) 433-0550.
This
can be found by calling the Planning & Development Department
or by utilizing the Boone County GIS mapping system.
The
ordinance can be viewed here or can be viewed at the Planning and Development Office. The ordinance may be purchased for $15.00 at the same office.
The
Boone County Zoning Ordinance was adopted on January 1, 1999
and is currently being amended.
