Meet Gustavo Marin

 

Gustavo Marin for CongressGustavo Marin is a non-profit consultant; university professor, political analyst and community leader who has founded educational institutions and served in leading executive positions at Carlos Albizu University, where he developed the CAU Foundation and created its alumni association; Polytechnic University and St Thomas University’s South West campus. Mr. Marin has also taught Business, Constitutional Law and Government at these universities. In addition, he has been:

-Founder & President of Abdala, a democratic human rights youth opposition movement founded by first generation college students attending universities and colleges in the US and internationally; as well as workers and professionals. The organization became a leading movement on behalf of democratic change in Cuba, promoting social & economic justice; political &labor rights in the country and Latin America. It also worked with AFL- CIO committees in supporting labor initiatives, freedom for imprisoned labor leaders & political prisoners in Latin America.

- Among the earlier organizers of the Hispanic YCS (Young Christian Students), a Chicago based Catholic youth organization working with the Hispanic youth and the poor in New York & New Jersey high schools.

-Among the original founders of CADA( Cuban American Democratic Association), a charter organization of Miami Dade’s Democratic Party, which worked on behalf of Democratic candidates and local issues in the Cuban American & Hispanic community. Mr. Marin became first elected VP, then president of CADA.

-The Freedom Foundation, a bipartisan group based in Washington monitoring and analyzing the overseas transmissions, its content & effects of Radio Free Europe; Radio Liberty and Voice of America.

- Presidential Appointment to the US Commission on Civil Rights-Florida Advisory Commission, which advised the Commission on civil rights issues; institutional violations of civil rights and recommended hearing s to investigate causes of civil disturbances( Tampa & Miami) in Florida.

-Appointed by Miami Dade County Commission to join other prominent Miamians in establishing the county’s Independent Review Commission to investigate allegations of police and prison guard brutality against local citizens ,particularly in the minority communities.

-Served on the board of Directors of the Spanish American League Against Discrimination(SALAD)

-Served on the board of Partners for Self Employment(Micro Business USA), a micro lending non-profit for minority entrepreneurs providing business guidance and credit in starting small businesses.

-Delegate to the Europe America Conference, held in Washington DC, comprising official political parties; civil,political,labor and student associations from the US, Canada and all the countries of Western Europe gathering for a week at the Nation’s capital to discuss the implementation of the Helsinki Accords between the US and the URSS (Russia).

-US Youth Council, Washington-Lead the first American delegation of political youth leaders to the Middle East, including Israel; Egypt and Southern Lebanon, as part of the Reagan Peace Plan. While in Israel, Mr. Marin’s travelled across the region and met with leaders of the Israeli government, opposition parties; settlers and business leaders. The delegation also visited the West Bank and met with Palestinian leaders in the area currently occupied by Israel.

-Delegate- The International Youth Year Conference- Kingston ,Jamaica- Sponsored by the US and the United Nations in a gathering of political, social and labor leaders from Europe; Latin America; Asia; Africa; Canada and the USA.
Mr. Marin has travelled throughout various countries of Latin America; the Caribbean; the Middle East & North America. He has met with world leaders such as Spain’s King Juan Carlos and Israel’s Shimon Perez as well Presidents ,ministers and leaders from the civil society.
