Barry comprehensive is an 11 - 18 school, situated on a large site on the western edge of Barry, with a joint co-educational 6th Form. The school is currently undergoing a major building programme that will provide excellent facilities for all departments.

Required for September 2000 a graduate teacher of Biology able to teach across the age and ability range from 11 - 18.

Biology is taught as a separate subject as part of a Balanced Science Course from Year 9 at Key Stage 3 and at KS4 up to GCSE.

Applications are invited for two posts – one for the nursery unit and one for a reception class. Due to funding arrangements the reception class position will be a temporary contract for one year.

The twenty six place nursery is in a purpose built unit in the grounds of the school overlooking the Bristol Channel. At the present time there are two sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. It is possible that the nursery may revert at some time to mornings only.

Candidates should be hard-working, conscientious teachers with good organisational and interpersonal skills. They should have an enthusiasm for early years teaching, knowledge of the 'Desirable Outcomes for Children's Learning on Entering Compulsory Education', be able to demonstrate excellent early years practice and function as part of a team.

Duties: Responsible, under the direction of the head of the establishment, or such other officer as may be designated by the Authority, individually or as a member of a team, for securing the safety, welfare and good conduct of pupils during the midday break period, in accordance with the practices and procedures of the local authority. Duties will include supervision of the pupils in the dining hall, playground areas and school premises and may include ancillary associated duties (for example cleaning up spillages, ensuring tables are clean etc) to ensure the maintenance of good order and discipline.

Based at the Heritage Coast Centre at Dunraven Park, the Glamorgan Heritage Coast Project works to conserve and enhance this attractive undeveloped coastline. Supported by the Countryside Council for Wales, it works closely with landowners and the community, seeking to balance coastal conservation with providing for appropriate recreational uses and improved access. The Project provides an exceptional education resource.

To join the four person Ranger team, you should possess practical experience and skills, and preferably have a qualification relevant to countryside management; you should be reliable and committed; have good communication skills, and a flexible attitude to working hours.

You will need to undertake a range of kitchen, household and general domestic duties as well as ensuring that a high standard of cleanliness is maintained at all times in keeping with Health and Safety regulations. A Food Handling & Hygiene certificate would be an advantage but this is not essential as training will be given.

You must be enthusiastic, self motivated and have the ability to respond flexibly. Previous experience in a residential setting would be an advantage but is not essential.

You will need to possess a caring and sympathetic approach to older people and be able to work as part of a committed team providing quality services to the residents.

You may be required to work weekends and Bank Holidays for which enhanced rates are payable.
