Introduction
The purpose of this site is simple: having all Sega 8-bit roms dumped and put them online for everybody to enjoy them. Dumping a rom is the process of reading the data from a cartridge and transferring it into a file, so you can play it with an emulator. Dumping is made possible thanks to dedicated people with hardware and software knowledge who are designing homemade device for this purpose, but nothing can be done without getting the actual cartridges from contributors.
A special thanks goes to Andrew Lindsay for having designed the very first homemade copier, from which everything started. It was in 1996.
Who are behind SMS Power ?
Omar Cornut (Zoop), Phillip Smith (Recall), Mike Gordon (MikeG),
(Asian members) Casiopea, RedS, Sankichi, Skyhigh, TW_Diy, Yakmo, Yujiro, xxx.
Image / Helsinki / Finland, Andrew Lindsay, Imid and Adolescent.
And of course all
contributors.
How to support SMS Power ?
Any Sega 8-bit hardware/software you would like to donate are welcome, so are money donation (all used to buy cartridges and hardware).
We need your support in order to continue.
If you have any question or wish to help us, contact

Release #327.. - Posted Wednesday, August 9 by Zoop.
World Class Leader Board (for Game Gear) is obviously a golf game. Now because there isn't much story to say about a golf game, I'll tell you that this the kind of game I'm not paying attention to, as much as I only noticed after someone offered to send it that it was not dumped. Damn me. Anyway, if you are into golf (anyone? anyone? heh!) you may like this one. It is not too complex to play, also. I'm not sure weither it is a quality for such simulation game, thought.

And the other news of the day is that after my Floppy drive, my CD-Rom drive died today :) A billion thanks goes to the ones who invented computers network!

Release #326.. - Posted Saturday, July 29 by Zoop.
Two weeks ago I stumbled accross that Game Gear game in a shop: Tintin in Tibet, by Infogrames. I honnestly didn't know it was even released on Game Gear (known it on PC), so well, today I was able to buy it and dumped it. As expected from Infogrames licensed games, it is a traditionnal platform game. If you liked The Smurfs or Asterix, you will find it somewhat similar. The game follow the story of the comic you might have read about Tintin rescuing his Chinese friend in Tibet, blahblah. Having played it about an hour, I must say the game is extremely hard, but the collisions detection is a bit fauly at my opinion and it's quite frustrating.. Anyway. I was in the mood to make a bunch of screenshots (36) and scan the box, so prepare yourself for an usually long page loading. Enjoy!

(No link to the page so you'll have to browse a bit and visit the site for once ^_^)

Welcome to MikeG ! Operation Wolf, and some thoughts.. - Posted Tuesday, July 25 by Zoop.
Today is another of those little steps in SMS Power history, with a new member joigning us: Mike Gordon. Based in the United Kingdom, Mike is one of those hardware experts without who SMS Power wouldn't be there today. He's been recently working on modifying original SMS cartridges to include an EEPROM and therefore allows developers and emulators authors to upload and test their own programs on a real machines. Head off on the Sega 8-bit Development Section if you are interested in knowing more about it. Be sure as soon as we'll think the design and informations are ready to be published for real use by anyone with a brain, some money and mainly lots of time and care (assuming you don't want to become blind because of an UV light), it will be published.

Operation Wolf is now up and released. I guess arcade fans and especially the many people who owned the Master System package which cames with this game will be in a happy mood tonight. For the ones who lived in an Igloo in the past twelves years, Operation Wolf is an arcade first-person shooting game using the Light Phaser of the Master System. Enjoy! And remember playing the games is more important than anything else, so go and play them! :)

Now some thoughts, for those who cares enough to continue reading after the link to Operation Wolf. It's about banners. Banners were originally installed in exchange of the hosting services, and hopefully to get some money out of them and therefore be able to buy Sega 8-bit related cartridges and hardware. As of now, banners are generating an average profit of 11$ per month so I'm not sure they even worth it. Surely they are annoying, Genesis Power being the best example of them, as used in a larger scale. But the profit generated is very useful to Genesis Power in order to keeps buying new cartridges. Adding that to the fact donations have nearly stopped, and that most of the cartridges left to dump are extremely rare (and so expensive) items from all around the world (anyone living in Korea?), what I'm wondering is if SMS Power should switch to a banner system ala Genesis Power. Before you ask, yes, that includes the silly links in the middle of news, and maybe popups. I'm not doing anything people might dislike, so please voice your opinion about it on the forum - for or against?

Finally, the soon-but-not-so-soon-to-be museum is looking for a person experienced in CGI coding is either Perl or C. Please contact me if you feel you can do the job. There is nothing to win but experience and fun :)

Wow, an update! - Posted Tuesday, July 11 by Zoop.
As mentionned on a previous update I've been working since the beginning of the month. Problem is that it sometimes get addictive so somewhat it doesn't leave me much time ^_^ Anyway, here are three games to feed your appetite until I can do something really nice:

Joe Montana Football. How many of you waited for it? A third probably. I still don't understand how to play American Football so it's not for me, but I guess some people were wanting to play this one.

Bringing you nice surprises, here is Nekyuu Kousien for the Master System, released in Japan on the 9/9/1988. It is a quite good baseball game with entertaining graphics and musics. One to try out if you like baseball games.

And last but not least, a little technical achievement. Forget Doom, forget Quake, here is Face Ball 2000 for the Game Gear. It's almost if you laught by playing it, but still, it is well done compared to the system specs, and there is even an option to play with the Gear-to-Gear (which is not yet emulated, but who knows, maybe one day).

Have a good day!

Music Music Music Summer Summer Summer - Posted Wednesday, June 21 by Zoop.
Today in France is "La Fete de la Musique" (Music Festival). It happens every year to celebrate the summer, and basically there are musics and concerts everywhere, for everyone and for free. Right now "Oasis" are playing their noise just in front of my house, with like a billion people in streets. But there are also small and non-professionnal groups which are sometimes nicer to hear. A great night in the country anyway ^_^ So byeee

GP Rider and various things.. - Posted Tuesday, June 20 by Zoop.
Back to update! I'd like to apologize for the lack of releases and news this month and generally since some time. Fact is that I have TON of work to do for school and it's eating most of my time. On the first of July I will be working so hopefully I'll have more time to spend than when at school ^_^

A new release to keep with the tradition: GP Rider for the Master System. Unlike the Game Gear version, this is a close port from the arcade game, means that two players can play simultaneously with a split screen! It is one of the very few SMS game to have such feature and it's very nice. Enjoy!

Sega World Tournament Golf is for sales on eBay. This is yet another undumped game. If you like in UK and have some spare pounds to share, go for it. There is also a SG-1000-II if you are really rich, as it is a bit a ripoff at this price :)

Stay tuned for, hmm.. for me having some time to work on SMS Power.
