"I believe cats to be spirits come to earth. A cat, I am sure, could walk on a cloud without coming through."

~Sparky~ Adopted feral cat |
What is a feral cat? |
A cat that is domesticated but has been abandoned, lost or neglected and forced to survive on his/her own is a stray. The offspring of these stray cats develop a natural fear of people and become "wild". The wild offspring are known as feral. These cats form groups known as colonies. The myth is that feral cats are unadoptable. I am here to tell you this is not true. |
Want to adopt a stray/feral cat? |
There are millions of stray/feral cats in need of good, loving homes. Feral cats are almost always euthanized at shelters because they are not given a chance to learn to trust people. Shelters are overcrowded and the staff does not have the time it takes to domesticate these cats. Many cat rescue groups will not even help feral cats because they consider them unadoptable. If you have the time and patience to devote to one of these cats, let your local shelter/rescue group know! |
Street/shelter cats sometimes suffer from the Herpes Virus. This virus is exasperated from stress which is why you may see stray cats or shelter cats with runny eyes and runny noses. Sometimes the symptoms are very mild, sometimes more severe. Just because a kitten/cat suffers from the Herpes Virus does not mean they are unadoptable. They just need extra love! | Here are some sites you can visit for more information on this topic: Herpes Virus In Cats My Cats & Me |
~Please Remember~ |
DO NOT attempt to trap or handle a stray/feral cat without seeking advice from an experienced rescuer. Injury can be caused to you and/or the cat. |
