Snapshot Gallery by Jeremy Hoesly

Thursday has arrived and so have another batch of snapshots:

  • The “Get Happy” desktop picture and Peter Harte’s Aqua III K-Scheme debut in this submission from R. Antonio. SoundJam, outfitted with the AquaX skin, is providing the music along the bottom edge. Apple’s chic optical mouse is displayed in the QuickTime Player.

  • This contribution from James Baker sports a custom desktop picture and the Grafito K-Scheme. SoundJam, permanently hacked to display the Mania-Music skin, is dishing out tunes in the upper left-hand corner.

  • Anthony Diego submitted this gorgeous snapshot featuring the stunning “X5 BMW” desktop picture along with Akio’s Aquafine K-Scheme. Icons from Desktop Gadgets and Icon Factory populate the right edge, while the Indigo iMac is presented in a QuickTime Player window in the upper left-hand corner and the movie trailer for “Me, Myself, and Irene” in the lower right-hand corner.

  • This screenshot from Raz K. sports a desktop picture from MacWorld’s April 2000 CD in combination with the Hi-Tech Theme. SoundJam is kicking out the soundwaves along the right edge.

  • Mac OS X DP4 makes another round in the Snapshot Archive with this submission from Rigmas featuring the X-Men movie trailer in the QuickTime Player as well as OmniGroup’s OmniWeb browser..

  • Star Wars fever returns with this snapshot from David Ziebarth featuring the “Going to Death” desktop picture from the older movie trilogy along with icons from Star Wars’ newest chapter. The Estudio K-Scheme takes care of the interface.

Just in time for the theme contest, Alphanumerica has released a theme builder for Netscape 6 PR2. The interesting thing about this tool is that it runs in the Netscape browser.

I'm sure you know that the latest Super-ftp client from the makers of Anarchie is called Interarchy. But did you know it can be skinned?

Interarchy calles them Wands, and they even include a Wand editor! Now, thanks to Oscar Marsh, we have our first Wand contribution, pictured on the left.

Right now, they are in the general makeover section, but if ResExcellence receives a fairly steady stream of these over the next few weeks, I would be more than happy to open a new archive section for Interarchy Wands.

Two years ago, when I first posted the edit to change a browser's throbber, I had to scour the internet for days to find a site that had posted any replacements. Now, pkelleher.com has a thriving archive and tools, and Derek Scott just released his new throbber tool, named cleverly enough - Throbbertool! This is another application to add/extract throbbers from the common browsers.

Web Site Quickies

Dan Jensen has updated DailyMacfit with a bunch of new desktop pictures.

Mike Davidson posted a slew of cool Mac files including : desktop pictures, icons, flash files and director projectors.

The latest obsession at the Coyle House is The Sims. My kids assure me that the best site for cheats and links to objects and skins is SimsForMac.

I keep saying someday I'm gonna install Darwin, but until I do, a great site for installation and modification tips is DarwinLinux.

Monday, the Outlook Express SoundSet Central mentioned that the sound files haven't change for the next generation email client from Microsoft, Entourage. Since then, a little birdie whispered in my ear...

While the format hasn't changed, Microsoft has added a new sound resource for Entourage called, "Reminder Notification." Like Palm Desktop, Entourage will alert you to appointments or events you have scheduled with the PIM/Calendar system. Also, in case anyone wonders, you don't have to have Entourage running to be notified. There is an add-on that will be available online (NOT on the CD) called Office Quick View that will toss in an extension (very stable) and a CSM that allows you to switch users, open the Address Book, add a contact, open the Task List, create a new task, pop up the Project Gallery to initiate an Office App, or turn Reminders off altogether. With or without Entourage running, if a scheduled event is due, Entourage's sound set now alerts you with a sound as well as a pop up reminder.

User Contributed Splash Screens:

  • More on the Danger Girls! Akio sent a new Explorer splash to go this his previous submissions.

  • Cynergy is a light subtle MOSS by John Semanko.

  • Peter McHugh has updated one of his popular splash screens for Eudora 4.3

  • Seb Carley created a Smilin Mac MOSS with matching ATM that sports a shiney blue look.
  • Bored with the look of ResEdit's splash? Get this new one from Stephan Körting.

Software News: by Cletus™

Rearrange Folders by Henrik Rintala has been updated to version 1.1.4. I believe I have mentioned this before although I do not remember if I asked the readers about adding it to the archive. "Rearrange Folders is a program which lets you optimize the positioning of windows of disks and folders in the Finder. You can specify where the window for a disk or folder should open and Rearrange Folders takes care that any folder inside that folder will open neatly stacked on top of the first folder so that your screen does not get so cluttered." Let me know!

Fire Imp Software has released Desktop Demon. Desktop Demon is an Applescript which "memorizes" virtually every aspect of your desktop set up, from window positions to icon placements. You can develop several scripts for different working environments. Your options for launching the script are also broad. You can use the Apple menu, OSA Menu, desktop or Finderpop. Give me the word and I can add it to the S.W. Archive.

Split Software has released an updated version of MacStrip 2.0 (formerly called FileStrip). In a nutshell, MacStrip will launch and organize your files. This includes applications, documents, MP3s, and folders. You can find a screenshot of the application here.

The Kaleidoscope Scheme Archive updates with 14 new and 11 updated schemes. My fav's (who cares): the ever prolific scheme producer Martha Royer posts Purple Passion. She has 15 pages listed in the K-Scheme archive! Wow! Others of note: MineShaft, Special 1 and X-tra Gray-vee.

As Marcos Lopez from MacThings heads back to school he hints at 8 new themes he has previews of. He is only waiting for the author's permission to post them. Keep a look out and I will post the news when they are listed. In the mean time check out two new additions to the "Themes Variations" page.
