From the English Supplement and the Back PAge of the latest Neos Kosmos: Boutsianis and Kalogeracos have signed for one year. Also on the back page: Milan Udravacz and Anthony Magnacca have been loaned out to the melbourne knights for the upcoming season.

Any Opinions on the loaning out of Magnacca? I know that most people would be glad to get rid of Udravacz, especially considering that Jones and Petka are our first two choices. But Magnacca? I am not so sure about that choice. I would have liked to hold on to him, if only as a super sub, but maybe his attitude forced the club and Mickey P to look elsewhere?

south melbourne over came a determined eastern pride team 2-1 in windy conditions at green gully reserve this afternoon.

all goals came in first half of which south had control but loosened control in the second half and were lucky to not concede a goal. the game was quite scrappy and with the wind playing havoc the teams struggled to control on the sandy pitch. the goals were scored by fausto De amecis with a 40 yard pile driver into the top left hand corner of the net. the pride equiliser was a gift after a mistake by liparoti, with the winning goal coming from andy vlahos also making the most of a defensive error.
the pride came out to play better than south in the second half and with the aid of the strong breeze created 3-4 clear chances on goal but wasted them. a good size crowd also saw the emergance of south skipper paul trimboli who played the last 30 minutes.

I enjoyed Wednesday immensely, all expect for the result. I have had enough of the following:

    1. The MCG
    2. That particluar goal end.
    3. glorious defeats.
    4. Opposition coaches thinking we play a tough physical English game. ( Mr Tardelli should take a closer look at his charges)
    5. Local Australians who do not give the national team of their homeland enough credit....some of the bulls--- I have heard from that night was unbelievable...eg comments like Australians can't play football!....just F$%k off
    6. Local journos who still don't give our boys enough credit.
    7. s--- referees....who seemed to be giving the decisions all one way.

    Postitives:
    1. Another great advertisement for our beautifual game.
    2. The fact that as a nation we produce some damn good footballers.....and by the way their technique, although no Brasilians, were excellent.
    3. Although I am not a big Raul Blanco fan....he in my opinion was tacticly superb that night.
    4. That with more preparation Australian football teams should fear no one in the world except Brazil.

You may say I am a sore loser........well I am and I do not care....I hate losing......our teams need to start beating these 1st worls soccer nations in order to get respect. We will get no respect from glorious defeats. A defeat is a defeat and it sucks fullstop....I have had a gut full of defeats.

An one last thing...we all may be bagging the Italians for their shirt pulling, their bulling of the referee, their dives.....personally I hate it and the dickheads in FIFA should do something about it......but if other nations do it, why should we not do it. The god damn Iranians fell down like the proverbial bad of spuds...the Brazilians in NZ against were unsportmanlike...etc...What I am trying to say is that our players should get RUTHLESS.....the Italians were the most ruthless i have seen...it helped them get a result and that is what matters girls and boys for our game...

I am sick of glorious defeats......

I am off my soap box...and hopefully I will be able to go to that jinxed stadium to see the curse finally lifted when the boys make it to the semi

    Boutsianis returns for title glory
    Thursday, 14th September, 2000

The South Melbourne Soccer Club is pleased to announce that its 1997/98 championship winning hero, Con Boutsianis, has signed a one-year deal with the club.

Boutsianis, who has signed for his third stint with South Melbourne, played a key role in Perth Glory's minor premiership triumph last season, scoring 13 goals from 21 games before trialling with English first division club, Bolton Wanderers.

Obviously I'm happy to be playing with South Melbourne again. In Perth, I saw first-hand how highly rated South Melbourne is, said the 28-year-old Boutsianis, following his signing yesterday.

I had a productive stint with Perth last season and enjoyed my time there, but unfortunately things didn't work out with my move overseas so a chance to join Australia's premier club in South Melbourne was a blessing in disguise.

I've enjoyed many good memories at South Melbourne and hopefully there's more to come this season. I'm very eager to get back on the field with the boys because the feeling amongst the squad at the moment is as positive as I have seen at this club.

Boutsianis is recovering from minor surgery to his right knee, which he declared is responding extremely well and is not far from full recovery. He has set the opening game of the new season on October 13 as a realistic date to be back on the playing field.

The signing of Boutsianis has firmed the current South Melbourne squad assembled by new coach Mike Petersen amongst some Melbourne soccer writers as a title favorite to reclaim the national championship.

In other player news, goal sneak Vas Kalogeracos, another former Perth Glory player aiming to sign with South Melbourne, is in negotiations with the club. His highly anticipated signing will further bolster an already impressive South Melbourne outfit.

The result last night was again disappointing, although also left us with the feeling that all is not lost

The crowd was big, has to be said though the atmosphere for me was much better at the world cup qualifier in 97 against Iran..

The pitch for a game of this magnitude was a disgrace, its seemed that players were playing in ice skates at times

Foxe not one of my favourites didnt do anything to change that fact, I feel Colosimo would have been more affective if he was used as Foxe was..

It was still great to see Australia on the world stage in front of a huge crowd, and even though Ive grizzled about a few things was great for football in Melbourne

Then I got home and pushed the rewindbutton on the tape.. Jesus Christ what was that Channel 7 the only saving grace was that they had Williams was commentating we saw the players coming out for the start for about 2 seconds, we missed the national; anthems, there was no team listings, now were the crowd shots avoided on purpose, (ch 7), we always see plenty of crowd shots at big events such as this

Finally to all those who didnt get to the MCG and in the past and currently bag SBS when it comes to sport specifically soccer/football, I hope you enjoyed the telecast, tossers.. and lets not comment on Sandy Roberts..

Our lineup: Minus Trimmers, Madknackers and Lipparotti - with new boys Kaiser Sosa and Knobsuka (I don't have my program with me) was experimental and gelled well... good to see Ritchie Algaeitch back from injury - he is a Champ (even though their 'soft' goal was mainly his fault for letting his man have TOO much space and time) - we looked sharp.

Sore losers Carlton

I have just returned from noddy land (Carlton messageboard) and I am struggling to understand how you can lose quite convincingly and still say you were the better team. Well this is what they are saying over there.
Also, in the first half Carlton approached the game in a very physical manner. Tricky was reported and for the good of the team subbed as he was about to be red carded as he racked up poor challenge after poor challange. Sure, in the second half south got serious, Clarky was all over his man (grabbing not kicking)and they gave as good as they got. However, as I was directly in front of the Packer incident I can tell you exactly what happened. While Lozza was on the ground Packer kicked him 3-4 times (using the studs). Lozza then jumped up and pushed him. Packe went down as any professional does to draw the ref's attention and sympathy. The ref told lozza not to be bated,a nd told Packer to watch himself.
If only they (Carlton) would the game from the wing they would get to see 100% of the game not just the 50% they want to see.
All in all, a good win but we will need Lipa and trimmers to flesh out the team. Beware however, Carlton didn't have Archie or Colosimo or Horvat so they will improve.

It was a great result and one we thoroughly deserved.
The first goal was a result of expert work in the left hand side by Andy Vlahos who ripped his mrker to shit. He worked his was in after a great long ball from Lozza and he had a great chance to shoot, but he wasn't greedy and rocketed a pass across goal for John Anastasiadis to tap home.
The second was again courtesy of Johnny who capitalised on some great work on the right by Horse Coveny. Vaughan received it on the right and turned his man inside out. He played the ball to Johnny who, after his second touch, slammed it into the bottom left corner.
The well deserved third goal was made by Vas Lalagerakos who was brilliant from when he came on inn the second half. Andy Vlahos was simply superb the whole game on the left and no-one could've deserved the goal more. Vas received the ball on the right and controlled it with his thigh, then put the ball forward of his left foot to which he crossed it to Vlahos who slammed it home from the edge of the box past Dean Anastasiadis who was simply pissed off by now.
Throughout the game though, the tackles were simply crazy. Some of the tackles were red card material but the ref only produced a few yellows. It was a game though that seemed like a finals match because the play contained so intensity and determination.
    Honourable mentions
Petka- Good debut with some nice touches. Made a great save in the first half ti tipover the bar from a powerful shot from Lapsanski.
Iodifides- Great game and saved us on many occasions. Rock solid and went forward on many occasions to play the odd ball in.
Susa- Good debut, his height really helped. Was great with his left often providing Loza for his runs.
Durakovic- Impressive throughout the game with his bulldog deefending. Took many free-kicks and used them effexctively.
Johnny A- Two great goals and was subbed late in the 2nd half. Was in top form and looks to have great effect this season.
Vlahos- Easily the best on the ground with his mesmerising turns. Great the whole game.
Loza- Stepped up in the 2nd half with some great crosses, turns and runs. I think the new haircut helped. Still didn't run that much, but was very good the whole time.
Ok, that's it but please correct me if I'm wrong in some bits.

I say this from the point of view of credibility, as it has taken us a long time to be recognised as the number one sporting club in the district, i feel that, that would be threated by a club that openly admits that the future is probably not there.
Furthermore i fail to see how it would be a financial positive, if you compared maintenance and housekeeping next to the crowds they pull, well it simply doesnt add up does it.
BJS is our home lets not threaten it for no reason and lose what has taken time to build in the area, we need look no further than the perenial gypsies of the competion Olympic and their failings of having no credible base in Sydney, so i say we dont tack on baggage like that and build on whats their for "ourselves"
