Clinical Trials

The Sansum Medical Research Institute is a non-profit organization involved in pursuing the cure for diabetes and conducting clinical trials, involving new medicines and devices used to improve the treatment of diabetes and its complications. We operate as an independent facility unaffiliated with any medical practice or hospital.

We would like to make you aware of the availability of services (if you live in the Santa Barbara area) that the Research Institute can provide at no cost to you when you are enrolled in a pre-marketing or post-marketing clinical trial.

Patients will receive:

additional resources to aid in diabetes management (i.e. set treatment goals, dietary and exercise counseling)

free diabetes education (emphasis on therapy compliance is maintained throughout the entire duration of the protocol)

free diabetes related supplies (glucose monitors, test strips, syringes, etc.)

free study medicines
increased surveillance of management progress
free additional diagnostic tests (EKG, meal tolerance test, blood biochemistry, etc.)

frequent laboratory work up (for constant reinforcement of progress)

services in Spanish for Latino population

The patients will continue to see their own primary care physicians during the entire trial and most laboratory and ancillary service data will be available for your records. At the conclusion of the trial, the patient has received all of the necessary testing recommended for the ongoing surveillance of diabetes and, in addition, an intensive multidisciplinary program for the control of his/her diabetes.
