This is just a thought but...

"Where is the Mechanical Pen?"

"The Mechanical Pen is here!"

This is from a word game that used to go around, its kinda an odd story but im gonna check out Erudin a bit better, there is a gnome rogue of the dark reflection that spawns in the jail there, he may know something.

PS im lvl 52 and i had good faction (amiable both before and after colaboration) with that zigg phin guy and he still wouldnt talk to me.

PPS its really rude of varent to make the epic quests have any part in kunark, its another thing that makes you HAVE to own it, if you do need to be 51+ then the message should have been on the kunark patch, not the normal one.

Sorry to post again so fast, but this was something that I just read on Elt's board.

We killed Cazic Thule and immediately a Wraith of a Shissir spawned in the temple. It conned yellow and indifferent to me.

Wraith of a Shissir drops a skull that is no doubt used in the quest. Here is what I am thinking -- if the Shissir are indeed involved. It may not even be our quest at all.

-- Once you get the ink, pen, and paper, you give it to Stofo. Something happens and I'm not sure what. After that, our quest takes us to Kunark where we have to basically become embroiled in this whole Shissar plot. Charisis is mentioned in the passage as the "area in the middle of the Overthere", and a Shissar Wraith drops a skull that maybe will become more relevant once the rest of this puzzle has been solved. I'm pretty sure that the pen comes from somewhere inside the Hole, and that more than likely the leads on Bertoxx are right for the ink. Now, what mob you actually have to kill to GET the stuff, and who assigns the item, I have no idea, but my bet is that the weapon COMES from the Spirit of the Shissar once you give him the skull from the wraith?

I am guessing here, but I want to give people my brainstorming so that this stuff gets out on the table and I'm not just sitting on it.

It's a bit of a stretch, but I might as well mention it...

If our quest involves the Shissar, there are two new quest npcs inside the canyon outside Charasis that might be used. One is an Astral Projection - he has the base human model, I'm betting that's a display error. Was blue to a level 52, hit for 137s. Poofed when he died... so I bet he was a vendor.
The other is Impaler Tzulig. Also blue, but he was very troublesome. He has a few guards with him... Skorpikis Guardians, seem to be high-40s shadowknights. The problem is Tzulig - although low level, and not immune to spells, he seems to regen something like 1k health a tick. We couldn't kill him. I'll try again when we get a necro or shadowknight to disease cloud him.

These may not have anything whatsoever to do with our quest, but it's worth a try.

Ok heres my EverUseful( hehe im original) insight on this quest...I think its definate that stofo initiates the quest....and we know how to get the paper...so we need the pen and the ink. Well if I recall right to complete the FA quest you need to kill 3(4?) really high lvled mobs that take upwards of 30 ppl to kill. So it seems that there are other high lvled NPCS you must kill. Also with the new tradeskills upgrades maybe the mechanical pen is tinkered. Also I think if some highlvled guid did a hardcore raid on The Hole that we would indefinately find something useful(maybe a note to give to that little gnome or something like that).
well that is my insight hope it maybe helped.

The astral projection is for the monk quest. The other NPC may be worth checking out, but it may not be for our class. Worth checking into.

Relating to the mechanical pen I'm inclined to think gnomes, but also traveling down the other train of thought with the wordgame about the answer lies within your question, I was thinking.

What if when he says the answer lies in your question, he doesn't mean that the answer lies within "where is the mechanical pen?"(Paineel), but instead means the answer lies within "your question"(Qeynos)?

Hrrm, been outta game all week haveta get on the ball with this now.

There is another new NPC in Erudin. Inthe back room of the Jewelry Shop in the palace basement. Would not respond to my lvl 25 Enchanter. Perhaps she might tie in to this somewhere?

Ok, I havent read every one of the poasts yet but has anyone tryed questioning Jade? Or maybe the gnome gives you or tells you the way to make the pen. I mean with all the new trade updates I wouldnt be suppresed to hear that you need to get a gnome to make you something.... as a way of getting more tinkers.... ??? Any one have any thoughts on this.... or maybe you need to mention to one of the gnomes the others location I.E. "I seen your twin brother over in freeport the other day" or maybe by the reply ".... almost charmed..." he means that... some one eveil has charmed him and made a dupliket? um... my ideas are probily as farfecthed as my spelling but hey its worth a try....

A quote from a board from a board I reached given a link from a previous post:

---------------------------------------------
Abcnai headed to Qeynos tonight to check out the temple..he found an NPC down there that knows of the ink.

[Thu Sep 21 20:53:04 200 Abcnai tells you, 'Reania Jukle says 'Ink of the Dark, you say? That isn't an everyday item, you know. In fact i can't remember the last time someone requested it. I have given up keeping any here with me. You are going to need to find your own supply now. Sor'
[Thu Sep 21 20:53:07 200 Abcnai tells you, 'ry.''

[Thu Sep 21 21:00:59 200 Abcnai tells you, '"the ink is the blood of a dark scribe. Tempt him and give him this vial. He should cooperate.'
---------------------------------------------

The post goes on to mention that they maybe referring to the scribe in Neriak who does the red wine quest. Now actually this is not the scribe. If you talk to this guy he tells you he is not actually the scribe and that the real scribe is a bar tender in the Blind fish on the bottom level. So if anyone has this vial they should give it a shot the woman who bartends in the Blind fish (Neriak Commons, Neriak Underground). Good luck

Im gonna say that skull is for the shaman item, not us, he mentions the serpent, and i saw a screenshot of a staff that looked like a snake, im gonna say thats prolly ours, there is an item that is a staff with a sarnak head on it, if the skulls for anything its for that.

The quest for the Red Wine has been in forever, it's completed by killing the scribe and giving his head to the barkeep for a component of the Tome of Ages. Although it might have changed, I'm guessing that it's a different scribe, seeing as how this string is already covered by a different quest. Then again, what do I know? Compared to the rest of the people probably doing this quest I'm a newbie =D

Found the lead on the Mechanical Pen!

Rilgor Plegnog, an Gnomish Enchanter trainer seems to be the guy. He's at 2031, -585 in the Mines of Malfunction!

[Thu Sep 21 20:41:35 2000] You say, 'What do you know about a mechanical pen?'
[Thu Sep 21 20:41:35 2000] Rilgor Plegnog says 'Why do you want one of those contraptions. You will spend more time repairing it then you will writing with it. But if you insist on getting one, you are going to have to do a small favor.

[Thu Sep 21 20:41:50 2000] You say, 'What small favor?'
[Thu Sep 21 20:41:50 2000] Rilgor Plegnog tugs at your robe and grins evilly. Mighty nice outfit you have there. Sure beats these drab robes us three are wearing. Hmm...my favorite color is purple, in fact a shiny metallic purple would do nicely. How bad did you want that pen?

Didn't have an SMR handy (sold mine a long time ago), will try to buy one later and give it to him.

Just and idea here, I'm no where close to being high enough to test any theories out.

'The answer you seek is in your question'

Remember the old saying:
Railroad crossing, railroad cars, can you spell that without any I's or R's?

While the letters in:
Where is the mechanical pen?
will spell out a lot of things, what if they are referring to the letters:
"your question"
which is from the NPC's statement? I can spell "Qeynos" with the letters in that.

Also, I must point out, that if you are trying anywhere that a religion is required, forget it. Verant said every race/religion can complete each class's quest (providing the race can be of that class). So, certain parts of Neriak, as well as Paineel, are pretty much out of the question.

Oh, and one more thing, The Hole NOR Old Paineel can be spelled from the letters, and as stated above, Paineel itself is out of the question, so try elsewhere. I wouldn't be surprised if they designed the quest so that it spans all 3 original continents. 3 legs of a quest = 3 lands to travel too.

Now, I think I'm done babbling on about something I have no clue about

I was going to post a similiar old riddle that would point to Qeynos.

In our language, hungry and angry are both words that end in GRY. There is only one other. What is the third word in the english language?

Of course the answer is language. Third word in "the english language" My hunch is the same with: Your answer is IN "your question"

Qeynos, leaving the letters o u r u t i left over.

With that said, who has been sewer diving lately?

I am sure that Daelomin is right on target. I was going to suggest the Enchanter in the Mines of Malfunction Rilgor Plegnog as he has been utterly useless to me as long as the game has been out. Get this gnome an SMR and you should get a Mechanical Pen or another quest. But this is definitely where to go.

Course I'll never get this little shiny stick thang myself. All I'll be able to do is drool all over it!

Another thought on the answer is in your question. If you rearrange the words and use all the letters you get "r not in qeynos" or maybe "torn in qeynos" or something to that effect.

Off a level 55 ratman guard in the hole I got a dusty tome which might be something the guy that is looking for old books might need.

The ratman hits for 200+, hit me for 370 when I was sitting. He is with a human monk that is nearly as bad. Both are highly resistant to magic.

Yep, the enchanter in the Mines gives you the Pen for an SMR.

[Thu Sep 21 21:50:06 2000] You say, 'What do you know about a mechanical pen?'
[Thu Sep 21 21:50:06 2000] Rilgor Plegnog says 'Why do you want one of those contraptions. You will spend more time repairing it then you will writing with it. But if you insist on getting one, you are going to have to do a small favor.

[Thu Sep 21 21:50:10 2000] Rilgor Plegnog tugs at your robe and grins evilly. Mighty nice outfit you have there. Sure beats these drab robes us three are wearing. Hmm...my favorite color is purple, in fact a shiny metallic purple would do nicely. How bad did you want that pen?

I then give him an SMR, I was in gnome form, starting as an Agnostic High Elf. I casts benevolence just in case.

[Thu Sep 21 21:50:47 2000] Rilgor Plegnog says 'Very nice!! It is perfect! Here take this pen. Have fun with it.
[Thu Sep 21 21:50:47 2000] You gain experience!!

I now have a Lore, NO DROP Mechanical Pen.

Here's a link to a screenshot of the NPC and the pen.

OK just a tidbit of information here. Don't have anythng that will further the qeest, but I do know you do NOT have to be level 51 to start it! I successfully talked with Stofo Olan this evening with a level 50 Enchanter and got all the info posted in earlier posts except for info regarding what he had discovered.

so the one thing left is the ink of the dark

i got the vial, and now just need to find the 'dark scribe' whos blood is the ink. im thinking its either someone in neriak or paineel. not sure yet, ill search around tomorrow hopefully, gonna catch some sleep. also, i dont think its the bartender in neriak someone mentioned earlier. reania says 'tempt him and give him this vial. he should cooperate. the bartender is female correct? so she cant be the dark scribe (a 'he') that we are looking for.

also another possibility is that he is somewhere in mistmoore. ive heard that there are several new npc/mobs there, and some of the spawn points have been altered a bit.
