PURCHASING

To help serve you better, we have placed our complete catalog online.  An improved version will soon be available in Adobe Acrobat .PDF format for easy downloading and printing.  The catalog serves as a list of the frames, options, and components we offer.  In addition it serves as our order form that gives us all the information we need to build your next bicycle.  For more detailed information about our bicycles go to the Product or Technical pages.   To order a frame or bicycle print this page, complete the order form, and mail it to us along with your deposit.  The form is divided into seven parts.  Disregard the second section if you are purchasing a frame set only.  Answer all questions and place a check by each item or option you want.  If you feel overwhelmed with all of the choices, we are here to help you with any question you may have and welcome your phone call or email.  Once we receive your completed order in the mail, we will contact you to go over any details that need further discussion.  Prices are subject to change without notice.

Built one at a time specifically for you

Today there are many manufacturers producing quality bicycles. But in nearly every case the company building your bike has no idea who you are. No matter how expensive their bikes are they are just made with the "typical buyer" in mind. They don't even know your name, much less your anatomical dimensions, riding style, and personal preferences.

I take the time to find that out and more. When you buy a hand built WITT Custom Bicycle, I know who you are, what you look like, what your cycling needs are, and what you want. Your new bicycle will fit YOU for great performance, efficiency, and comfort. And, with a beautiful paint job that you design, each frame is a one and only; just like you.

- Ty Witt

Finely crafted of quality materials

Each frame is entirely hand made in Ty Witt's frameshop in Kennewick, Washington. It is a slow process, but one which has its rewards when the cyclist receives a frame that could never be duplicated by production machines. Witt uses the latest steel alloys from Columbus, Reynolds, and Dedacciai, finest titanium available AncoTech, and Easton's new Scandium.  The frames are fashioned with stylish silver brazed investment cast lugs, beautifully sculpted fillet-brazed joints, or strong and clean TIG welds. Each tube is selected specifically for its diameter, wall thickness, and shape, so that it will ideally match the needs of the customer. After careful preparation the tubes and lugs are fitted on the jig for brazing or welding. Then begins the many hours of filing and sanding that separate Ty's frames from the others. Bicyclist magazine's Patrick Brady said, "The frame's lines drew me in a way some sculptures do… Witt works fine details and beautiful shapes into all of his frames." The alignment is checked and rechecked. From beginning to end some 30 - 40 hours may be spent on a single frame, and that is before the painters apply an unbelievable finish of your choosing. The finished bicycle is light and strong and has the unmistakable ride quality that you so desire.

How to get started on the bike of your dreams

Witt has all the information needed to design and build your bicycle when you complete this buyer's guide. Once the completed buyer's guide and deposit are received, design and construction begins.

Fill out the form completing each appropriate section. If you have any questions about any part please contact us. It is important to be honest with yourself and us in answering the questions. Check each item or option you want for your new bicycle and add in the price. Again, if you are uncertain about an option choice put a question mark in place of a check and we will contact you. As you complete each section, add all costs and put the total on the final page. A minimum deposit of 50% is required with your order with the balance required at shipment. Payment can be made by check, money order, or Visa / Master Card. Completion times may vary depending on the number of orders we are processing, the paint style chosen, and material.  Bikes may be shipped as soon as 25 working days.   When we receive your order along with the photos and deposit, we will send you an order confirmation with expected delivery time as well as your invoice showing the balance.

Part I - Cyclist Input

What bikes do you presently ride?

Why are you buying a WITT?

What is your riding style?

What are your strengths and weaknesses?

How many years have you been a cyclist?

Do you ever compete in organized races?

What expectations do you have of your new WITT bicycle?

How do you want it to handle?

What priorities do you place on comfort, acceleration, and climbing performance?

What do you like about your present bicycle?

What do you not like about your present bicycle?

Part II Cyclist Measurements

Have someone help you with these measurements. Accuracy is very important. Double check each measurement to be certain. English or metric units are fine. Inches should be rounded to the nearest quarter inch, while for metric dimensions round to the nearest half - centimeter or 5 millimeters.

____A) arm: wrist bone (ulnar eminence) to end of shoulder bone.

____C) trunk: while still holding square against crotch, measure from top

This diagram represents your present road or mountain bike. Carefully measure your frame where indicated and fill in the blank. Mount your bicycle on an indoor trainer and have your assistant take a couple of photographs with you riding to include with your completed buyer's guide. Since we can’t see you in person these photos are very helpful. The photographer must stand perpendicular the bicycle as in the drawing at right, and take a picture of you with your leg at the bottom of the stroke (6:00 & 12:00) and again with the same foot (closest to the camera) forward and parallel to the ground (3:00 & 9:00). Warm up on the trainer for a few minutes first so you will be in your natural position on the bike.

Part III Component Kits – If purchasing a frame set only, go on to part IV.

Witt Custom Bicycles are available as a frame set only or as a complete bicycle. We do not sell components without a frame set. Component kits are built from top range Shimano and Campagnolo groups. Each kit is made of three parts: the component group, the wheels, and the handlebar/stem/saddle selection. When comparing price look closely at the quality of the components we use. Our complete kits represent outstanding values. Components are only sold in complete kits with a Witt frame set. Each bicycle comes professionally assembled and a variety of pedals are available. If you are interested in a different configuration than those shown give us a call and we will be happy to give you a quote.  As component prices frequently change, please give us a call for the latest price.

For a complete bicycle you must choose one option each from A,B, C, & D. Section E is optional.

Part V Frame Finishing

Your new frame can be painted any way you wish. Below we have examples and descriptions of several popular styles. Use them to help communicate to us how you want your frame to look. Certainly you are not limited to these styles. Our painters enjoy the opportunity to paint a unique design. Use the blank diagram to illustrate your design along with the selection of the appropriate paint option and price. Please call us with any questions you may have regarding your design.

Classic-

Using traditional panels on the seat and down tube as well as a contrasting head tube the Classic theme highlights graceful curves of the lugs. Shown here with the optional stripes of a third color the look can be very retro or contemporary depending on the colors chosen. The Classic theme can also be used with great results on TIG-welded or fillet-brazed frames by eliminating the contrasting head tube. Normally the fork is painted only in the primary color of the frame but in this example the crown is painted in the same color as the panels with the same gold stripes. This is most beautiful on composite forks with a smoothly sloping crown.

Milano-

The Milano is a two-color fade with Italian flair. The fades are short to medium in length instead of the long drawn out fade of a traditional front to back fade. The Milano looks great on any frame but is at its best on frames with large oval or teardrop shaped megatubes for the down tube.

Fade-

Our fades usually use two colors with a sweeping front to back transition that starts at the front on the fork and goes all the way to the rear on the stays. If you want a third color incorporated in your fade that is no problem. Fades also work very well going from top to bottom with the darker color on the bottom.

Flame-

Flame paint jobs are hot. They are also expensive. A traditional 50's style flame job would start with white on the front and end with jet black behind the fingers of the flame, but nearly any color combination can be used as demonstrated by our example. Fillet-brazed frames with oversized tubes are a great pallet for a flame paint job. Call us with your ideas and we will give you a quote.
