Info: Rahim Karim is one of the best defenders Iraq has ever produced, the tall and unstoppable central defender started his career with Al-Minaa in 1965 in his birthplace of Basra in southern Iraq. He made his international debut in 1969 against Egypt lining up alongside the likes of Aliyat Al-Shourta players Abid Khadum and Douglas Aziz, Al-Fareek Al-Thalatha star Shidrak Yousef and Al-Jawia pair Sahib Ghazzal and Mejbil Fartous. After making his debut for Iraq, Rahim became an important part of the national team and went on to play in Asian Cup in Thailand in 1972 and 1976 where the team finished in 4th place in Tehran, Iran. He was also part of Iraq’s first ever World Cup qualification campaign in 1973 for the 1974 World Cup in West Germany. Iraq only lost 1 game against the hosts of the qualifying tournament Australia and were only 1 point away from qualifying for the 2nd round. In 1977, Rahim won the World Military Cup, the same season his club Al-Minaa won the Iraqi league.

Info: Riyadh Nouri was a talented midfielder who was one of the first names on the Iraqi team sheet during the 1970s. He started his career at Aliyat Al-Shourta in 1970, alongside the great Iraqi players Obid Khadum and Douglas Aziz. Two years later he was called up to play for the Iraqi national team in the Asian Cup qualifiers against Ceylon(now known as Sri Lanka), the team won 5-0, and it signalled a new started for Iraq, where Riyadh was at the forefront of it all. Iraq featuring Riyadh and many of his Al Shourta team-mate Abid Khadum, Douglas Aziz and striker Sabah Hattem went on to win the 1972 World Military Cup in Baghdad. One of the biggest disappointments in Riyadh’s career was not qualifying for the 1974 World Cup in West Germany after being only inches away from qualifying in Australia. In 1977, the Iraqi team won the World Military Cup, repeating the feat of 1972. Riyadh’s brothers were also footballers, Muthaffar played for Al-Shourta and Sabah and Ossama for Al-Jawia.

Info: Riyadh Abdul-Abbas is a talented midfielder who is known for his pace and skill on the ball. He started his career at Al-Rasheed in the late 80s. In 1988, Riyadh broke into the Al-Rasheed 1st team and also earned him a place in the Iraqi Under 19s team alongside Captain Radhi Shnishel, Saad Abdul-Hamed and Laith Hussein helping Iraq to the Asian Youth Championship in Doha, Qatar and qualification to the 1989 World Youth Cup in Saudi Arabia. In 1990, Riyadh moved to Al-Shourta, where he played for 4 seasons before he turned professional and moved abroad to Qatar and then Malaysia, where he first joined Kelantan and then Johor where he became a crowd favourite before he joined Malaysian League Champions Penang in 1998 after impressing in a trial, however his venture with the “Panthers” was short-lived as the Malaysian FA banned the use of foreigners for the next season. In 1999, Riyadh returned to Iraq to captain Al-Shourta, managed by his former Al-Rasheed team-mate Ahmad Radhi.
