MacRonchi 2.0 is a free Mac OS X application that is useful for Amateur Telescope Makers (ATMs) that are in the process of making a telescope mirror. It shows what the reflection of a ronchi grating should look like at certain distances from the radius of curvature. Source code of this application is available for download. For more info, visit Mel Bartels' page on the ronchi test. Also check out my page on the interpretation of ronchi shadows.

One of the cool features of this version of MacRonchi is the ability to change the shadows in realtime using a slider, as you can see from the animation.

About

This application is useful to Amateur Telescope Makers that make their own mirrors; it shows what the shadow patterns for a perfect mirror should look like when the Ronchi test is performed on the mirror.

Version History
2.0
Completely rewritten from scratch in Cocoa. Added support for printing, realtime updating of the ronchi images, and tons of other things.
1.2
Fixed a bug that caused the inside-RoC images to be drawn incorrectly. Thanks to Robert Duvall for pointing this out to me. Also added an option for selecting a fixed or moving light source, rearranged the items in the window a bit to look nicer, and changed the bitdepth of the offscreen graphics area to 2 so the program consumes a lot less memory.
1.1
Changed algorithm to plot all points, instead of picking points at random - turns out to be almost as fast, and looks a lot better.
1.0
Initial release.
