SABRES SIGN DOUG JANIK

“Doug has enjoyed a solid career at the University of Maine,” said Regier.
Buffalo, NY (July 23, 2001)-- Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier announced today the team has signed defenseman Doug Janik. As is club policy,terms of the deals were not disclosed.

“Doug has enjoyed a solid career at the University of Maine,” said Regier. “We are excited about his signing and look forward to him continuing to develop and contributing to out organization.”

A second-round draft pick in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Janik has spent the past three seasons at the University of Maine. In 110 career collegiate games, he totaled 12 goals and 42 assists for 54 points to go along with 150 penalty minutes. He was the teams top scoring defenseman this past season with three goal and 15 assists for 18 points and second in defenseman scoring in 1999-2000 with six goals and 13 assists for 19 points. In addition, Janik also served as team captain of the Black Bears this past season.

In addition to his time at Maine, Janik represented the United States at the 1999 and 2000 World Junior Championships. Other honors include 2000-01 NCAA All-East Regional Team, 1999-00 New England Hockey Writers Association All-Star Team selection, 1999-00 All-Hockey East Team honorable mention and 1999-2000 runner-up Best Defensive Defenseman.
