WHAT PLANET IS THIS?
NY Times: The five countries that emerged in Central Asia after the collapse of the Soviet Union a decade ago ? Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan ? are unknown to most Americans but are now being urgently courted as the United States seeks to destroy terror bases in nearby Afghanistan. Until a month ago, even many officials in Washington tried to avoid dealing with these countries, whose complex challenges range from surging Islamic militancy to lucrative drug trafficking.

There is lots going on today, but it will have to wait until after I'm done being hammered by whatever cold/flu bug has taken control of my entire being. I'd at least post links to dispute DEBKA's Chinese troops story, but I simply do not have the energy.

The site DEBKAfile claims that (1) "US and Russia Strike Reciprocal Deal on Tactical Nuclear Weapons Deployment Against Afghanistan and Chechnya" and (2) "China Moves Muslim Troops into Afghanistan to Support Taliban and Bin Laden Against US Assault". I haven't a bloody clue what DEBKA's track record is yet.
