 ANNOUNCES NOMINEES FOR SIXTH ANNUAL ALMA AWARDS

GALA AWARDS EVENING SET FOR APRIL 22ND;

 

LOS ANGELES, APRIL 5TH, 2001 The National Council of La Raza (NCLR),

the largest constituency-based Hispanic organization in the United States, has named the nominees for the 6th Annual American Latino Media Arts (ALMA) Awards, set for Sunday, April 22nd, 2001 at the Pasadena Civic Center, it was announced today by NCLR president Raul Yzaguirre. The ALMA Awards, honoring outstanding artistic achievement in and enhancement of the Latino image through film, television, and music, will be aired as a two-hour entertainment special on Friday, June 1st on ABC from 9-11pm (Eastern & Pacific). Awards will be presented in categories for film, prime time television and daytime drama performances by male and female actors and achievement by directors, and in a category honoring the host, anchor or correspondent of a national news series or special. A category for Spanish language comedy series has also been added this year. Additional awards will recognize the best of music and variety specials, syndicated television series, documentary programming and soundtracks. Recipients of the Special Achievement Awards are expected to be announced next week. The 6th Annual ALMA Awards executive producers are Raul Yzaguirre and Louis. J. Horvitz. Producers are Leroy V. Martinez, Cort Casady, and Bill Urban; Horvitz also directs.
