The development of QLem has now been taken up again.
I'd be interested in hearing from people who want to help out.
Currently the whole thing's written in assembly language, but I expect
a lot of the code from now on will be in C.
Even if you can't program at all, you're very welcome to help out with
the testing of software. Ideas for new features etc are also very welcome.
Better support for the Falcon030 (especially AB040 accelerated ones, like
mine), STonX (an ST emulator that runs under UNIX/X) and PaCifiST (an ST
emulator for DOS) is the important thing right now.
On both the emulators it's possible to run SuperBASIC programs under QLem,
but compiled program can crash if they happen to call the wrong QDOS
routines. Apparently it's possible to run Quill from floppy under PaCifiST
v0.46, though. :-)
In the future it's likely that there will be some QL specific support
(most importantly screen conversion) for both the emulators mentioned.
QLEM v1.45Jx(beta) works on the Falcon030! (only in ST colour, though)
Even floppy access works (for DD disks).
ToolkitII (TrumpCard v1.21), Qmon2 and the PSION programs have been tried
on the Falcon and chances are good that most other programs will work as well.
Let me know if there are any problems.
A new version of QLem is now very near [970818]
I know I've been saying that for a long time, but now it's actually true. ;-)
There is still no way to run QLem on my own machine, but thanks to PaCifiST
and with the help of Christian Peppermueller, I finally think it's time to
release a new version.
The most important feature is probably the keyboard remapping, which will
allow you to make the emulated QL keyboard behave according to the labels.
There's also a new 'pseudo interlace' mode for screen emulation, which means
that the full 256 rows can now 'fit' on a normal ST screen.
I've also included support for running in higher resolutions.
Thanks to Christian's help, the known bugs in the disk device driver have
been fixed and some improvements made.
Falcon owners should be happy to hear that the bus error handler has been
updated to work as well as it does on the ST. This means that programs like
The Editor will now run nicely.
