MATERIALS:

  • Columbia-Minerva LINSPUN (2 oz pull skeins): 1 skein of each of 2 colors
  • "Boye" crochet hook Size I

GAUGE: 8 hdc to 3"

Note: Hat is worked with 1 strand of each color held together.

___Row 1: Ch 2. In 2nd ch from hook work 8 hdc. Do not join. Mark beg of rows.

___Row 2: Work 2 hdc in each hdc: 16 hdc.

___Row 3: * 1 hdc in next hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc, repeat from * around: 24 hdc. Continue to increase 8 hdc on every row being careful not to place incs over incs of previous row, working until there are 48 hdc on Row 6.

___Next Row: Work 1 row on the 48 hdc. On next row inc 4 hdc evenly spaced around. Work 1 row on the 52 hdc. On next row inc 4 hdc evenly spaced around. Work 5 rows on the 56 hdc. Join to next st with a sl st. Do not fasten off.

___BRIM: Row 1: In back loops only work around in hdc increasing 13 hdc evenly spaced: 69 hdc. Do not join rows. Mark beg of each row.

___Row 2: Working in both loops inc 13 hdc evenly spaced around: 82 hdc.

___Row 3: Inc 5 hdc evenly spaced: 87 hdc. Work 3 rows on the 87 hdc. Work 1 row of sl st around brim to give a double edge. Join & fasten off. With 2 ends of each color held tog crochet a chain about 46" long. Stitch center of chain at center back of hat just above brim. Bring chain around on outside of hat to each side and lace through pat to inside of hat.
