  • Description : Lower Multnomah Falls is dwarfed by the main portion of Multnomah Falls which drops over 500 feet by itself. The falls' height are usually quoted together making Multnomah the 4th largest waterfall in the U.S. This may or may not be true. There are falls such as Fairy Falls in the Mount Rainier region with a record height of over 700 feet that aren't counted in the top five. So I think when the guesstimators put there stamp on a fall they take attributes such as access into consideration. I consider the two, two falls as each are listed as plunge falls, and if they were in fact one, it would be considered a tiered fall. Lower Multnomah is situated immediately beyond the visitor center at the Multnomah Falls scenic stop.

Safety Considerations : This is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Oregon, no safety concerns to mention (unless you're afraid of people).

Driving Directions : From Seattle take Interstate 5 down to Portland. Actually, you want to make sure that you end up on the east side of Portland by the airport, that way you can access Interstate 84 heading east. From here signs direct you to the Columbia Gorge Scenic Highway. Follow the signs to Multnomah Falls, you can't miss it.
